College Prowler Take
New arrivals to Florida State may be fooled into thinking that Tallahassee is a sleepy, Southern town, but the truth of the matter is that the nightlife here is alive and well. On any given night, you can have your choice of live music, dancing, and drink specials. The Greeks on campus have a reputation of throwing some of the best bashes, and the off-campus parties often wind up being large and loud. Most students will hang out on the Tennessee Street Strip, but bars and clubs surround the campus. Remember that this is a two-college town, so there are going to be some crazy parties to attend almost every weekend, whether they are FSU parties or not, and whether they on campus or off. However, all this partying does bring some unwanted attention. The local police department recently established a “Party Patrol” that responds to complaints about off-campus parties and underage drinking, and the FSU police are fairly strict, as well. Because the students at FSU are so friendly and outgoing, you won’t have to worry about being bored. There’s always a good time to be found around every corner, just use common sense to stay safe and to not get caught.

FSU kids have the ability to make a great time out of nothing. Our clubs are probably average, but the students make the party atmosphere unforgettable. |

There are a variety of clubs and bars, so it just depends on your style. We have been rated the number one party school a few times in the past, which you can take as you will. It doesn’t mean you have to be all into partying, but at least the opportunity is here. |

If you set foot in Tallahassee and ask where the bars are, they will direct you to only one place—Tennessee Street. One of the main streets of Tallahassee, it houses almost all of the clubs and bars. I’m not a huge partier, but most of my friends that go out religiously seem to enjoy them. |

I’m not really sure about this one. I’m a homebody, so I really wouldn’t know. I don’t think there are rampant parties all over campus, but if you want one, you can probably find something to suit your needs. And the most popular bars are Snookers, Bullwinkle’s, Floyds. |

Facts
Bar Prowler
Tallahassee has a large selection of bars and nightclubs with just about something to fit every personality. Because it is also the state capital, some nightspots cater to a more high-brow clientele. Here are a few of the more popular student hangouts.
Organization Parties
The organizations and clubs on campus are always active and ready for a good time. In addition to regular events, some hold private or invitation-only parties. They may not always be as big or as loud as some of the Greek parties, but they are always fun.

Description: This is one of the most popular hangouts in Tallahassee, with a bar, dance floor, and outside patio if you want to get away from the noise. However, don't get caught there on a weekend; this is the place to go on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Bar Listings
The Grove is small, but it’s still very popular. The dress code is fairly strict—it’s more of a Miami kind of lounge than Tallahassee’s other nightspots. The Grove 111 W. College Ave. Tallahassee (850) 577-0700
Cuban restaurant by day and student hangout by night, Gordo’s is one of the cheaper places in Tallahassee to get a drink. Friday is Latin night, and Thursdays feature cheap pitchers all day long.
One of Tallahassee’s more unique spots, the Library is divided into three rooms—two of which are outside—and concentrates much more on music and dancing than most other local bars. Late Night Library 809 Gay St. Tallahassee (850) 224-2429
As the name implies, Po’Boys specializes in Creole food and exhibits a lively Baton Rouge atmosphere. Great jambalaya, authentic gumbo, and a free-beer-for-ladies Tuesday make this place a popular hangout for FSU students. Po’Boys Creole Café 1944 W. Pensacola St. Tallahassee (850) 574-4144 www.poboys.com
Wednesdays are college nights at the Moon, a bar and music venue which adopts a completely different vibe for each night of the week.
Brothers is said to be one of the funkiest nightclubs in town. They offer entertainment ranging from drag shows to Old Wave parties. Definitely not to be missed. Brothers 926 W. Tharpe St. Tallahassee (850) 386-2399
This is arguably one of the best places in town to catch live music from both local and national bands. Live music is offered throughout the week, giving you the chance to hear everything from reggae to hardcore punk. The Beta Bar also has pinball, pool, and foosball.
Ranked by Playboy magazine as one of the best college bars in the country, it features an indoor dance club, live music in the Jamaican Beer Garden, and offers a Thirsty Moose VIP Club.
Another hot place to catch live music on the weekend, Floyd’s also offers a variety of drink specials and 18-and-over shows.
This is an on-campus nightspot that offers live music and comedy, as well other various performance opportunities throughout the week.
What to Do if You're Not 21
