Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

If you want to see an FSU student get all worked up, ask them about parking on campus. Most of the lots are full by 8:30 in the morning, and trying to get a spot after that is like looking for ice cubes in the desert. The general rule for students taking classes later in the day is to arrive at least 30 to 40 minutes ahead of time, and then be prepared to wait. FSU has taken small steps to improve the situation, but so far it hasn’t been enough. Some students opt to ride bicycles, motorcycles, or scooters. They also rely on the local bus system. The school is serious about parking violations, and the tickets can be expensive. Also, unpaid fines will result not only in late fees, but also in holds being put on registration and graduation. Despite all the complaints, the school continues to drag its feet on fixing the problem.

The thing that gets most students angry is the fact that they have to pay a parking fee, but it doesn’t guarantee a parking space. Most people end up circling the lots like vultures, waiting for someone to pull out so they can all scramble to fill the vacancy. The University doesn’t allot spaces; it’s a first-come, first-serve basis.

Extremely Time Consuming to Try to Find a Safe Space for Your Car.

If you can't take the bus directly from your apartment, it's best to park somewhere safe off campus and catch the bus to campus. It will be much less stressful and time consuming. The worst thing is when you think you've found a space, only to realize it's illegal for whatever reason to park there. However, there is a new garage being built off of gaines street' hopefully will ameliorate the issue.

Pretty Bad

Parking is one of the downsides at FSU. You spend hours looking for a spot on campus, even sometimes in the garage.

There is simply not enough parking. You have to get to campus before 8 a.m. if you want the premium parking spots. Then some of the others you can get there until 10 to find something. There are building a new parking garage, so that will help some, but not enough. Best advice would be to get to campus an hour early if it is later in the morning, because you will be driving around for awhile. I have been pretty lucky, however, as I live in the Southern Scholarship Foundation housing, so I always have parking at my disposal.
