College Prowler Take

Dorming at Rose Hill has its high and low points. Even the smaller, freshman buildings like Alumni North and South are a decent size, and the housing situation only improves with each housing lottery. Martyr’s Court, one of the newer dorms, is tightest on space, while Walsh Hall boasts the roomiest suites. Unlike Lincoln Center, Rose Hill’s dorms create tight communities, something that’s inevitable when sharing bathrooms is a necessity. Upperclassmen generally enjoy off-campus housing, although dorm prices could certainly be beat by renting apartments without Fordham affiliation.

Lincoln Center’s apartments receive near unanimous praise, and the large suites deserve every word of it. Every room is self-sufficient, with its own kitchen and bathroom. Even the smaller suites are large in comparison to any “affordable” NYC apartment you’re likely to find. Since the building is connected to Lowenstein, students are a mere elevator ride away from class (a major benefit in snowy winter weather). The only downside that comes with such impressive housing is that students rarely form social and active floor communities. Because there is no reason to share bathroom or kitchen space, many residents will go semesters without knowing their neighbors. Some students are surprised and upset about the lack of social life within the residence community, while others enjoy the comfort of privacy.

The Res Life employees are really rude to students. They can’t wait for you to do something wrong, either.

Walsh Hall is nice because the rooms have their own kitchens. I didn’t start cooking until I got into Walsh. It’s a whole new environment from freshman year in Alumni North.

The dorms themselves are great, but Res Life is the Gestapo of college. They regulate the number of guests you can have, and of course, they try their best to keep you from having fun in every which way.

Lincoln Center dorms are amazing. My only complaint is that they’re so self-sufficient that you don’t really form a community with your neighbors. Since you don’t share a bathroom, why go outside?
