Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Fordham doesn't have much of a drug scene if you're thinking about something hardcore like cocaine. However, alcohol and marijuana are very popular among students. A significant number of students admits to drinking regularly, and a somewhat large portion also say they smoke pot. Those are also the two drugs students most often get caught for using or having in their rooms. A walk around campus on a typical weekend night will yield the sounds of students trying to quietly drink in their dorm rooms before going out, and very often the smell of marijuana wafts from small circles of people sitting on Eddie's. Despite the overwhelming popularity of alcohol and marijuana usage at Fordham, of course, there are some groups of people who are into taking harder drugs, but unless you're into that scene, you probably wouldn't even notice its existence.

After alcohol and marijuana, the most used drug at Fordham involves prescription "study drugs." By no means does every student on campus use such aids, but it's not unheard of for people to be talking about it in the study lounges, especially during midterms and finals. That being said, no one at Fordham feels so overworked that they feel the need to turn to "study drugs" like Adderall every time they sit down to do homework.

Alcohol and Drugs

I occasionally will see marijuana being smoked when I come back to the dorm at night. Alcohol, on the other hand, is rarely seen.

Alcohol and Drugs at Fordham

In the dorms and at parties, drinking and drugs are huge. There is an overall policy reinforcement, but none that I have seen in action yet. There is also a lot of pressure to drink.

Nothing Else to Do but Drink

Drinking and smoking weed are extremely widespread. Because there are limited options of places to go at night, besides tri-bar, most students drink even if they wouldn't otherwise want to. Just like many other colleges, peer pressure is common, but not outrageous. I don't smoke or drink personally, and I was never pressured to change that. I don't know much about other drugs, but I know of students who have used plenty.
