College Prowler Take

The two campuses offer different types of “drug scenes;” Rose Hill houses numerous beer parties amid its buzzing social community, while Lincoln Center’s festivities remain off campus, usually at bars and clubs. Neither school has a significant drug problem, although students at both campuses admit that “if you seek, you shall find.”

Alcohol is the University’s biggest illegal substance. It is permitted in rooms where all the occupants are over-21, but parties (both on and off campus) can get out of hand. Students who don’t drink or use drugs will find a good-sized community of the same, while those who like to indulge should keep their drinking reserved for bar or club nights. Partying on campus, especially in the heavily-monitored McMahon Hall, will only get you into trouble if not done safely and respectfully. Save your wild side for the bars and clubs; as you can tell from the Nightlife section, New York and the Bronx have plenty to spare.

I’m sure drugs are here, but I haven’t seen them. If you don’t ask, you won’t even know they’re there.

There are pot dealers on campus, and everybody knows where they live—that’s fine. They’re not in anybody’s way; they’re just doing business for those that want it.

On campus, drugs aren’t really around, but off-campus, there’s definitely a scene. This is New York, for Pete’s sake. You won’t find any needles on the street, but you can tell who is selling.

I was surprised by how clean the city is. I heard the old nightmares about 42nd St.; now all you see are Disney posters. I’m sure if you know where to look, you’ll find drugs, but they’re not obvious, even in Manhattan.
