There are several cases in a month of students getting robbed(most of them fordham prep guys). If you are smart you won't get in troubles.
No! Many people are intimidating by the name, but remember where in the Bronx we are. We're right next to the Botanical Gardens and the Bronx Zoo, and Fordham Rd is the shopping capital of the Bronx. Unless you are walking alone deep off campus at 3am you will be fine. I have walked back from the subway alone at night with bags and never had a problem. Just like any area, you have to be smart and aware of your surroundings.
people don't feel safe at RH because they are intimidated by the "scary bronx." it's stupid. you need to be aware of your surroundings, and have a basic understanding of street smarts. flashing an iphone or a wallet around is always a bad idea. as is wandering around at 4am alone. but in general, I have never felt unsafe in the belmont community off campus.

There's a lot to do and see in both the Bronx and Manhattan—not to mention any other borough you can travel to from either of Fordham's campuses. On those first few nights as a freshman, many Rose Hill students feel intimidated by what lies outside of the gates. But after a while, walking around the Fordham area becomes less of a daunting task, and streets like Arthur Avenue become home. The subway usually proves to be a pretty overwhelming experience for most students, but as time goes on, you learn to navigate easier and more efficiently in the underground world of New York City. As far as safety goes, don't let the security alerts and experiences of others force you into hiding. Instead, take them as warnings and always remember to be street smart and never walk alone at night.
Many local businesses welcome Fordham students with open arms in the sense that they are willing to provide discounts to those who show Fordham IDs. There are several restaurants that are open late and cater specifically to student needs. Some places around the neighborhood even put up banners that read "Welcome Back, Students!" at the start of the school year. Overall, the business community around Fordham realizes that it depends on students to make money, and so it tries to show as much love as possible to the Fordham students.
