College Prowler Take
Although the Bronx may seem intimidating at first glance, most students come to embrace their neighborhood in one way or another. The campus itself is fairly self-contained, so those who ultimately feel uncomfortable outside Rose Hill’s walls have little to worry about in the long run. Outside, however, is a bustling, lively area that offers a diverse mix of local businesses, popular bars, and national landmarks. Take your Bronx exploration slowly; there is plenty to see, and you just might enjoy the discoveries. While the Rose Hill campus is a sprawling green lawn of beautiful buildings, taking a walk outside and onto the streets of New York will provide a satisfying retreat to keep you from suffocating in the Fordham Bubble. The Bronx, especially from Rose Hill’s point of view, is a unique and, at times, overwhelming neighborhood. Lincoln Center draws a good portion of its students based on its location. The campus stands right about where Midtown meets the Upper West Side. The Hudson River, Central Park, the Theatre District, and Uptown Manhattan surround Fordham, giving students plenty of options when it comes to leaving the building. Wake up for a jog in Central Park, or spend the day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. If anything, the location is too good; it’s hard to stay up and concentrate on class work in the city that never sleeps! One thing is for sure: when you come to Lincoln Center, you are choosing New York City. The amount of opportunity for art, entertainment, fine dining, and shopping can be overwhelming, and students should set out a budget once they arrive in Manhattan. Take advantage of campus-sponsored excursions to save money, and always keep your student ID handy for discounts at shows and museums. Remember: you have four years here. Don’t rush your NYC education.

Lincoln Center is the best location in the world! You’re walking distance from the Theatre District, so it’s really easy to get student rush tickets to Broadway shows. Plus, you can wake up and jog in Central Park. When it’s nice outside, I like to spend my whole weekend sunbathing and playing Frisbee. |

The city is a huge distraction. It’s hard to do homework when there’s a parade outside your window. |

I went broke my first month here. Everything is more expensive, but the main thing is that I wanted to try every New York landmark right away. That adds up, but you have to do it eventually. Go to museums and shows, but do it all in moderation, or else you’ll end up like me! |

We’re in New York which is great, but sometimes you feel too crowded. Columbus Circle can be really busy, and if you have to head downtown, you cross through the hell that is Times Square. It’s still a great place to live, but sometimes, quiet would be nice. |
