College Prowler Take

Neither Rose Hill nor Lincoln Center offers the traditional experience most students associate with stereotypical universities. The Jesuit tradition, the core curriculum, and the vital location of Fordham define the school’s base foundation as a hands-on liberal institution. Once you split the University, you’ll discover two different worlds: the green college community-feel of Rose Hill and the urban buzz of Lincoln Center. Some students claim that there is a heated rivalry between the two major campuses. Although many Rose Hill students go four years without visiting Lincoln Center (and vice versa), the two campuses complement one another quite nicely. Prospective students, however, will only apply to one of the schools.

At Fordham, the small class sizes and friendly professors create a tight-knit intellectual community. Classes are not about lecture notes, but about the students and how they interpret and mold their own educations. If you think that desks should be equipped with a pull out pillow rest made exclusively for in-class napping, then Fordham is not the college for you. While Fordham’s core requirements are quite large and (some say) rigid, students must ultimately push themselves to discover and appreciate their chosen area of study. From Career Planning, to expert professors, to the city itself, there are ample resources available to succeed at Fordham. It is up to you to use them. Social life may not involve toga wear or weekly keggers, but students generally don’t mind the scarcity of such activities. Rose Hillers enjoy typical college activities while sorting through their own little Bronx venues, while Lincoln Center students take advantage of what New York City’s upscale community has to offer.

I was disappointed with the level of academics here, but I found a lot of resources outside the school to be extremely helpful. I interned at a major network and made some big connections that way. So, if nothing else, Fordham opened a lot of doors for me.

Fordham isn’t bad, but there’s a lot I think can be improved. The administration doesn’t always treat you like an adult. Individuals can get shafted if they don’t know the right people. Classes are good, but some of the core requirements are just too much. I would have liked to double major, but that couldn’t happen because I didn’t have room left in my course schedule. Still, there are great resources, some great professors, and you’re in Manhattan. What more could you ask for?

I have had a wonderful experience so far at Rose Hill. It’s only been a year, but I’ve already learned so much and made some great friends. The campus is beautiful, and the professors are amazing. I’m really looking forward to getting an internship somewhere in Manhattan. I am very proud to graduate from Fordham.

I wasn’t crazy about New York City (stupid reason to go to Fordham then!), but I’m proud of what I accomplished during my time here. I did Study Abroad, made some friends, and learned a lot. I’d recommend Lincoln Center if you’re a real go-getter. Lazy people aren’t pushed enough here.

This isn’t your typical college. We don’t have frats or even a main social gathering point. The FCLC community is what you make of it, and there are times when I wish I was more involved here. I got a great education and am really happy and proud to go to grad school next year. So I guess my experience here was good, just be advised that this is not your typical college campus.
