Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking at Fordham boils down to one word: useless. Public transportation is the major means of transportation in New York, so why increase the already heavy street congestion? Rose Hill commuters can enjoy an affordable parking pass to be obtained from the security office a week or so before classes begin. Residents are not permitted to park on campus. Lincoln Center students are not even offered a parking option. While there are several surrounding garages, prices are extremely high (the best deal you might find will be $150 a month). Street parking is always an option, if you enjoy frantically navigating the busy rush-hour streets for a non-meter spot, hit-or-miss parallel parking, or sprinting outside every hour to refill your meter.

To be frank, New York is not the city for automobiles (unless they’re bright yellow and charge by the quarter mile). Neither Rose Hill nor Lincoln Center encourages students to bring cars and for a very good reason: pure inconvenience. There are many alternatives to driving to school that are cheaper and faster than starting your own engine. Save gas, toll money, and a lot of unnecessary parking stress by trading your keys for a Subway Metrocard.

Parking Can Be Difficult- but Not Impossible

There is a parking garage on campus, but many students complain about the expense of the permits to park there. On the neighboring streets, there are places to park one's car, but local neighborhood rules and norms need to be followed (moving it during street cleanings and avoiding owned spots).

Not Good but Who Needs It?

Well. I only give it a D+ because it's $1000 a year for a non-commuter to park their car at Fordham's Rose Hill Campus. But on the other hand, no one at school needs a car because New York City is a 20-40 minute train ride away (depending on your choice of rail), and from there everyone I know takes planes, trains, and buses home.

Parking

For resident's it is not worth it to buy a parking pass for the year because it is so expensive (do not keep your car at school if you live here!). Otherwise it is $11 every time you park. Commuter's buy a parking pass at a reduced rate if they drive to school. Always spaces to park in.
