In New York City, a car is more of a liability than a convenience. If you're planning to commute, you can easily find parking space in our enormous garage. Otherwise, you don't need to worry about parking. |

At Fordham, varsity sports are there if you want them. The basketball teams probably have the biggest turnouts at games, although occasionally the football games can become overrun with students. Intramural sports, on the other hand, are a big part of student life at Fordham. Nearly every team is coed, and many teams that form during freshman year stay together throughout the four years most students spend at the school.

Being in New York City, Fordham students have access to an incredible public transportation system. The school also provides transportation between its Rose Hill and Lincoln Center campuses, but students often choose to make the short walk to the Metro-North or Subway.

Weather is pretty moderate in New York. It's good to have some T-shirts and shorts for August to September and April to May. In between, it'll get chilly, so bring a heavy coat. A hat and pair of gloves are a good idea on some days.

Parking on campus is expensive, but no one brings a car here. Seriously, we're three blocks away from a subway station and 10 steps away from Metro-North. Plus, the Ram Van will get you into Manhattan in under 30 minutes.

Girls at Fordham tend to be very metropolitan and very into city life. You'll find a few who think they're princesses, but for the most part girls here are friendly and easy to talk to.

The teachers here are nice, and the problem tends to be the students. There isn't much motivation here academically or socially. People come for the city, not the academics.

Try to research your professors before you register. There are some nightmare courses out there, but most teachers are awesome, really accessible out of the classroom, and stimulating inside. |

Professors are really...
Professors are really understanding of our situations as students. The core makes you take everything, but professors are aware that if you’re in a Perspectives: Physics course, you probably don’t care much about physics. You’re just doing it to graduate, and they keep workloads light and fairly easy. |

The theater professors are the best. They really form a community with the entire department and become your friends and mentors. As far as my core classes go, I can barely remember any of my professors’ names. |

I had two professors that refused to give As. Their classes were pretty good, but I think it’s ridiculous that a professor has a rule like that. It doesn’t help anybody. |

Make an effort to get to know your professors. They can seem really intimidating during class, but most are really friendly and open to helping students outside of class. Plus, most are working professionals in their area. They can land you internships or even job connections in the future! |

Professors are pretty hit-or-miss here. I’ve had some amazing teachers who have gone out of their way to help me, but others who had trouble remembering my name. |

Supposedly Fordham is really competitive, but sometimes, I find that really hard to believe. I’ve had classes where students sit in the back and make fun of the professor or spend the entire class talking about getting drunk. There was a kid who once asked why we needed outside sources on a literary analysis paper. That really shocked me in a college that has such a high academic ranking. The quality of teaching is excellent, but some of your fellow students are just idiots. |

Well, we’re in the Bronx! The Bronx! The birthplace of hip-hop music! Fordham is the last thing that comes to anyones mind when you think of the Bronx. |

Lincoln Center is the best location in the world! You’re walking distance from the Theatre District, so it’s really easy to get student rush tickets to Broadway shows. Plus, you can wake up and jog in Central Park. When it’s nice outside, I like to spend my whole weekend sunbathing and playing Frisbee. |

I’ve never felt in danger at Fordham. I used the late-night escort van once, but I’ve never really felt like I needed supervision walking at night. |

We’re in a really safe neighborhood, as long as you stay to the east of Columbus Avenue. Once you hit 10th/Amsterdamn Avenue, things can get a little sketchy at night, since you’re in the projects, but I wouldn’t really say it’s dangerous. You just need to be cautious. |

Safety is good—too good. You can’t really sneak guests in after sign-out times, which can be annoying. There really isn’t much nightlife on the [LC] campus itself, so once you go out, you just have to use common sense. Yes, it’s New York City, but I’ve always felt pretty safe, even late at night. |

You can’t do too much partying on campus, since Residence Life has ears at every corner. I know someone who got busted because one of the Res Life officials was on the elevator with them and saw that they bought beer from the grocery store. |

Security here at Lincoln Center is mixed. Some of the guards are really cool and professional, but others, especially the ones working late at night, are on weird power trips. It’s 3 a.m., you’re tired and drunk, and they stop you to thoroughly inspect your ID card, even when they know you. |
