Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Welcome to the Northeast, where every season makes itself known to the fullest extent. New York can be brutally cold in the winter and blistering hot in the summer. Students from warm climates might find themselves discouraged by the onslaught of snow, but in reality there is nothing too extreme about the weather here. In recent years, intense snow storms have caused a few last-second class cancellations (something few Fordham students complain about). Unfortunately, Fordham loses points for its fickle heating system. On some days, students would prefer to face Mother Nature herself, rather than suffer through an hour or more in what seems like sub-zero classroom temperatures.

The attitude of being hip and fashionable may reign supreme in New York City, but always consider comfort over appearance when packing your wardrobe. You will need a “real” winter coat (that cute little piece of down fabric draped across Macy’s storefront mannequin might not have what it takes to bear the brunt of a heavy-duty New York snowstorm). Invest in quality winter gear for the occasional day below freezing and be sure to bring some extra thermals. You don’t want to be the only one who can’t sled ride after an emergency snow day is declared!

It's New York, However It's Not the City...

In the City the land is unnaturally heated by the subways, and wind protected by the buildings. The Bronx is a different story. After the sunny fall days end, you will be greeted with numerous miserable days of 40 degree weather and overcast, usually with rain. This is partially due to the pollution from the area. By the time winter comes around be prepared for your life to suck, since everything is only accessibly by AT LEAST ten minutes of walking.

Tri State Area

Living in the Tri- State area my whole life, I am pretty used to the weather here. It snows in the winter so it's annoying to walk to class, but in the spring and summer it's so beautiful, everyone goes outside.
