Finacial Aid is awesome! It can turn into a nightmare if people are late with their applications or when the financial aid office looses items and requests them numerous times. There is no college/university who has a peaceful Finanical Aid office. Finanical Aid is like the DMV, hell on campus! At FVSU, the process is simple. At the beginning of the new year fill out a FAFSA form and then submit it. The University will then proceed to tell you how to go about sending in the proper paperwork for which deadline and any further instructions.

At FVSU, sports is a big deal. Each sport is a big deal and has its own fan base. Football and Basketball reign supreme in the fanbase sector while Tennis, Track, Dance, Softball, Volleyball and Swimming come afterwards. FVSU has a rich culture and alot of history to celebrate so our school spirit is always higher than normal. We are not your average HBCU! Athletic facilities are placed aside for those who are participating in a sport, people cannot use the football or basketball team's equiptment without permission from the coaches.

FVSU has strict rules because our campus is open to the public, therefore we do not always have FVSU enrolled students on campus during class hours. The most strict rule we have is visitation. Visitation varies each year, but never goes beyond midnight on weekends. Freshman have tighter rules than everybody else because they want to ensure that Freshman do not get distracted with the new freedom of having people of both sexes able to visit. FVSU does not have policies that affect student academic life. FVSU rules are there to ensure that if students ever needed help or wanted to know what is or is not accepted, they know.

Biology is a major that alot of people start off with and do not end up with. Biology majors have to endure alot of studying, hard work and testing but in the end it is worth it. ANY degree you get in college can be manipulated to do what you want it to do, just get internships, network and gain experience in the field you want to work in.

As a freshman, I am not aware of ALL the perks or the pit falls of my University but I do know that Fort Valley has a caring staff, from the Financial Aid office to the Campus safety officers on campus. The workload at FVSU depends on how badly you want your grades and ultimately how badly you want your degree. Each major has different workloads and it is up to you, as a college student, to do the work. For some people the work load was heavy and that is because they put in effort while others seemingly had little to no work and that WILL reflect on your final transcript. As a freshman, the University will pick your courses for you, do not worry! Every freshman has to take the same pre-requisite courses in order to graduate. To register for classes for your semesters after your first fall semester there will be signs and bilboards posted telling you to find your advisor's office so you can get your class schedule sheet. On that sheet you and your advisor will sit and look at your needed courses to graduate and break them down into semesters using something called a balance sheet. After you and your advisor have a meeting, he/she will direct you to the department head where you will then fill out a class schedule sheet with your class' CRN number, time, professor and subject. Following all of that you will then get your advisor to sign off on your sheet and then you will turn it back into the department head and that is all.

Fort Valley is a small, historic town. Nothing much there except open land and cotton fields. As a college student you will need to be able to learn to make the best out of where you are and to use your resources avaliable to you (i.e carpool, biking, skating, walking). There are no local malls or attractions in Fort Valley. You would have to go to Warner Robins for that.

Fort Valley's dorms are like hotel rooms! There are 4 people to every unit, but it does not feel like it. I love the spacious rooms, living rooms and hallways. The vending machines are always in the main lobby if you ever want to get a snack or a drink and the housing process is not hard, just submit your housing fee and select what type of dorm you want (4 person, 2 person or disabled) and then the University takes care of things from there.

I attend to an HBCU ,but I must admit I have encountered people from many different walks of life in many different aspects whether it's religion or race.

The campus shuttles are the only means of transportation, unless you have a car. The buses stop running at 5, which can be inconvenient.

Parking at Fort Valley State University is horrible. There are not enough parking spaces to accommodate student parking especially commuter parking. If you would like to park in commuter parking, you will have to arrive on campus by 8 a.m. that morning.

The campus life is pretty average. The only downfall is that it reminds me of high school, which is not good.

There isnt much to do in fort valley at all. the city is 10 minutes long. its basically a college town. The closest city near by is Macon which is about 30 minutes away which has malls shopping centers etc.

At Fort Valley State i was a Business Major. Being a freshman/upcoming sophmore there arent to many major classes that youd take at the moment. My main concern is that my attended major was fashion merchandising which they do not have, let alone any art majors. With subjects such as math and science which are the most important i think the university couldve done alot better with hiring reliable teachers or a better variation.

The atmosphere in Fort Valley Ga. as a whole is wonderful and very welcoming! Fort Valley Campus is just the same even though we are not a huge school but everybody seems to know and support everybody.

You see different races around campus here and there. I attend a HBCU college so there arent many that may appy to my school. But the different races that do attend my school are comfortable with their environment, they also interact with the different programs we have on campus.

Drugs are not really popuar at my school. Athough, you can find some people around campus in use of drugs and/or alchol. More than likely they were doing it at home before they came to college, so that same affect followed them to college.

I'm a married, non traditional student. I don't have any knowledge of campus housing.
College Junior 2013-07-03T20:18:47Z
As a non-traditional student I do not participate often in campus activities. In the activities I have participated in, neither drug nor alcohol usage has been visible. I believe most of the students are aware of the problems associated with drug and alcohol use and refrain from it.

Every school has its up and downs when it comes to sports, some are better than others. FVSU has its strong sports and its weak sports.
College Senior 2013-06-24T15:16:39Z
Its cheaper than staying on campus and its not far at all from the campus, but when its comes to parking on campus thats where they may be some issues at times.

Greek life draws many students to campus activities.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
