Fortis is a great college. They actually get to know each student and they make sure you know everything you need to know before you go out into whatever field you are studying. You will also build a strong bond with your classmates also.

I chose this college because of the effectiveness of the teachings that they do, and because they have one of the highest graduation rates in Virginia. Another is the convenience of how close the school is to my home and how easy it is to get in touch with professors as well as other fellow classmates.

A little nervous about taking online courses because I wont have the professor right in front of my at times when the book is not answering my questions but Fortis College made it very easy to always stay in touch with my professor.

The students at Fortis college are different depending on their major. In the nursing program, my program, the students are serious and completely dedicated to school. In all the other programs they just kind of mess around.

I have not yet started Fortis; however I do start in july. So far all my teachers and academic advisers have been really amazing. The school is small, but that makes it a very comfortable and small enviroment.

Not All About Money – My college is a private for-profit institution. They admit students sometimes without looking at whether or not they would be a good fit to the career they chose. This make some feel as if Fortis is all about money. I feel that any experience is what you make it and at Fortis if you really care, so do they. Sometimes you have to make people care and the only way to do that is to be persistant and assertive. I have instructors who have gone well above and beyond to assist me, so I would have to say that Fortis is not all about money.

If You Do the Work, It Will Come. The career in surgical technology is difficult. Trying to find job placement after passing is relatively easy and hospitals have an abundance of need. However, if you don't excel in the classroom or the clinical site you can expect to be in a tough predicament. If you do what is required and open your mind the jobs and references will be there. Also, as with any career your attitude needs to be accepting. We also have the vice president of the state assembly who is trying to gain us respect and mandatory certification in the OR. The statistics are not high but the instructors do their best to provide opportunity. Take advantage now and you will not regret the investment.

Don't Leave It at the Door! This curriculum is mainly the preparation for the certifying exam at the end of the program. I received the advice not to just leave your books in the car and they were right. This is an intense amount of knowledge and knowing that type of student is out there only makes me prouder to get where I am going. The clinical experience is very hands on and is an avenue of potential job placement. The school has two mock operating rooms and a new campus. The instructors warn us of landmines before we get there and the program is what you make of it.

Never Too Late – Going back to school shouldn't ever discourage older students knowing that programs such as this exists. Surgical Technology is an up and coming profession with major things happening at the legislature level. Fortis has kept an open channel with any concerns and now two years later I will be taking my certification exam with a positive attitude that I will survive. It is an intense program and the knowledge is in depth so the faint of heart need not waste their time. Only a few schools like this are accredited and the clinical experience is irreplaceable. I hope my hard work has paid off and I know my instructors are even now trying hard to find job placement. It's never too late to find new and reasonable ways to lock on to a career that keeps building.
