College Prowler Take

The Department of Public Safety is disturbance-driven in their stance toward alcohol. They also prefer to run educational programs and self-defense classes to lower the incidences of those disturbances.

Keep your head down and be polite. Then you’ll get off with a warning. But don’t park in a FSA parking spot, or you’ll have your head ripped off and handed to you! We’ll have more on this in the next section.

It is very strict if they catch you, which happens pretty rarely. Do not be a repeat offender, learn from your mistakes, and keep your illicit activities off campus and in private.

Campus drinking policies are...

Campus drinking policies are stricter than ever due to several alcohol-related hospitalizations of students. Usually, if you are smart, you can get away with drinking in the dorms and in off-campus apartments. If the school intervenes, there is the possibility of getting written up, having alcohol counseling, getting suspended, and maybe even getting kicked out depending on the severity of the instance.

I'm really OK with us having a low grade on this because I don't think it's smart for RAs and authority figures to be handing out beer and other forms of alcohol. I have drunk on occasion but never more than one drink. If you don't do anything stupid, you won't be bothered. It depends on the HA, too. Some will write you up, but most won't do anything as long as you aren't being a pain about it. One of my friends who was an HA only wrote up people on his hall who were super loud, like the time they played music really loudly and woke him up with it and with their shouting while playing quarters with their doors wide open and guzzling beer. Now, seriously?

It’s mostly disturbance-driven. If you are being belligerent and loud, blatantly drunk or high, expect to get caught. But it’s really a campus that is more concerned with your safety than what you’re doing behind closed doors. The only incident I have had with security was when I was stopped because a female guard was concerned because I was being helped home by two men. In all honesty, it could have been a very bad situation that she was just trying to avert.

As I said, the campus police try hard, but mostly they don’t bust that many people. Only the dumb ones (belligerently drunk, noisy, barfing people).
