Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The drug scene here is certainly palpable. F&M runs an intense anti-drug campaign, but statistics on posters don’t discourage the truly committed. Marijuana is the most common and easily obtained—simply go upstairs at any frat party and follow your nose. Among the wealthier students, cocaine is an option, and its presence is certainly known. E is something students use during winter vacations to Ibiza or New York City, but not on campus. Prescription drug abuse is on the rise, and it is not hard to find people selling Adderall, especially during finals week. Like all schools, if someone wants a certain drug, they will be able to find it.

GHB is definitely something partygoers need to be aware of. Girls, watch your drinks. Don’t put them down and expect to drink from them again, especially at the frats. If you’re careful, you’ll be fine. But remember to party in groups, and don’t be stupid about taking drinks from people you don’t know. The trouble with GHB or “roofies” is that the victim wakes up without knowing what happened the night before. This is a problem at any campus, and there are a couple of fraternity houses at F&M, in particular, to be cautious of. F&M’s Red Zone program tries to make first-year women aware of their risk and make sure that they have the resources they need to find help, if necessary.

Cocaine and Drinking Most Popular

Lots of kids come from prep schools, so the cocaine use carries over into college. Most of this is kept behind closed doors at fraternities and sororities, though. You probably won't see most drugs unless you want to. Drinking is big Thursday-Saturday, not much during the week though. There is little to do if you don't like to drink or party.

Know where to look

Been there, done that. You can find any party drug, and people to it with, on this campus. However, out of necessity it is very much underground.

Anybody on campus dealing anything other than bud is going to be very secretive about it, since Public Safety will come after you if you get a reputation as a dealer of hard stuff. But at least once a month, kids will bring back small amounts of acid, shrooms, and mollie/E from Philly and New York. And no, "rolling" is not restricted to off-campus partying. People who have rolled at F&M parties have reported great experiences and tolerance for their method of partying among other students.

Some of the smartest, nicest kids at this school like their drugs. It's all out there. It is college, after all.
