Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Contrary to however much they may complain, Fummers love it here. Once they’ve found their niche, they’re the happiest little bunch of workaholics you’ll ever meet. The only regrets come from those people who expected college to be a series of protests and consciousness-raising events. You can have those experiences if you really want to, but in all probability, you’ll have to organize them. Another popular complaint is the lack of privacy in the social scene—let’s face it, F&M is small, and everyone knows everyone else’s business.

The most common F&M experience follows a pattern of coming to know the school, getting to know people, and then having your initial high hopes met with reality. After a brief stint of disillusionment and dissatisfaction (this bit is optional), you’ll come to recognize the wonders of F&M and meet the people whom you will hopefully stay close with. You’ll close out your experience having grown both academically and socially. Not a bad job for four years!

Overall Experience

I really like most things about F&M, with the exception of the rigor of the pre-med course work (especially in the chemistry department). The chemistry department is notorious for harsh grading, insensitive professors, and unrealistic expectations for their students. Every other department, however, has wonderful professors who are more than happy to allow you to engage in independent studies and/or research, and the friends I've made here at F&M will last me a lifetime. Overall, I think it's a great school; you just have to be ready to work.

I LOVE IT

I love this school. It is gorgeous. The boys are generally cute. The girls are nice. The parties are awesome. The professors sincerely want to help you which is huge. For example, I am not a science person. There is 1 lab science required for Gen-Ed requirements. I wasn't doing well in the class but the Professor met with me about 4 times before the final to help me study AND gave me extra credit work to complete in order to bump my grade. I love this school.

I enjoyed being in college and F&M itself was okay. I do wish that I was somewhere more liberal. I feel that the students and faculty here are not as open-minded as the school portrays them to be.
