Quick Stats

Best Ways to Get Around Town By foot
Best Ways to Get to the Airport A cab ride to Lancaster Airport costs no more than $10, but to Harrisburg usually costs about $50. The train is less than $15. During breaks, the school provides a shuttle to airports in Philly, Harrisburg, and Baltimore. Otherwise it's best to take a train or ask a friend to drive you.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

RRTA has 18 bus routes. The most popular route, which goes both downtown and to the Park City Center, has a stop on campus across from Old Main. Schedules are distributed at the Information Desk in the Steinman College Center. The bus system is convenient and easy for those who grew up using the buses. For suburbanites and their attack SUVs, I’m afraid the situation is not quite so sanguine. If you’re not willing to work a little to understand the buses, find a friend with a car and stick to them like glue!

Students use several local airports, including those in Philly, New York, and DC. Transportation is easiest to Philly or New York, with a great train connection at the downtown Philly station. Again, most students prefer to catch rides with friends to airports and the train station. If you’re determined, you can get around, but Lancaster doesn’t make it easy on you.

Not the Best, Not the Worst

The school has a shuttle on weekends that goes downtown, to the mall, and to the movies. It is useful, but it is slow and students have to spend a lot of time waiting for the shuttle. The city buses can also be useful but they stop running fairly early at night. Taxis are good for going places and don't cost too much if you can split the cost with others.

How to Get Where I'm Going.

There are plenty of options for transportation at F&M. There is a nightly shuttle that transports the students to different areas of campus and near off-campus for safety purposes. Also, there is a shuttle called the Lancaster Loop that transports the students to the Park City Mall every Friday afternoon or Central Market and Walmart every Saturday morning/afternoon. The city bus also runs daily for an alternative option. For transportation during breaks like Thanksgiving and Winter break, there is a shuttle that students can use by reserving a spot online and paying in advance to transport them to the nearest airports or train stations.
