The professors are helpful and willing to work with you outside the classroom. It's a heavy workload with lots of homework on a daily basis, but everyone is there to help you succeed.

Most students are white, upper-middle class, Christian, and conservative, but Furman is trying really hard to be more diverse. One of the biggest changes recently is that Furman is becoming a lot more geographically diverse in recent years.

Most students have a car on campus. There is a campus shuttle but it only brings students around campus and to University Square Plaza (which has a Publix grocery store, and a few small restaurants). To get to Walmart or downtown Greenville on weekends, you need a car.

Furman assumes everyone on campus has a car and thus includes parking fees into tuition. If you don't need a parking permit, you simply fill out a form and get a refund. Parking is very good for all housing locations and the restrictions for your parking permit area are very serious. Furman police give out an exorbitant amount of parking tickets, so don't even think about parking outside your permit area. You are not allowed to drive during class hours, because everything on campus is within a 10 min walk.

Weather is usually fairly decent. There is quite a bit of rain and the only way to get to class is bike or walk (cannot park on campus during academic hours) so bring rain gear unless you can bug a friend into dropping you off. It doesn't snow here a whole ton, unfortunately.
The main problem I have had since attending Furman is that I developed severe spring and fall allergies. I never had allergies before, but the presence of flowers, trees, and pollen on campus is overwhelming. I visited the infirmary my freshman year thinking I had a cold only to be informed my throat was closing due to allergies. Many of my friends have had similar experiences so try to come prepared.

Furman forces students to live on campus so that they can charge more for tuition. They offer only one set of "off-campus" apartments that are less than a 2 minute drive from the campus and are owned by the university. These are expensive so many students opt to not live in them.

The dining hall and paladin dining area are both alright. You'll probably be tired of the food after the first month. The university definitely serves better food during the tour dates and when parents are on campus than they do at any other point in time. Especially avoid dinner on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I'd say the most frequented places on campus are Moes or Einsteins (which is open at night for late-night studiers in the library) and both are very good.
Honestly, the most frustrating aspect of the dining experience is that you can't elect to not have a meal plan. Even if you choose to not eat on campus you'll still have to pay for some kind of meal plan. It's yet another way that Furman rips its students off.

There are many options around campus but most are fast food restaurants. If you drive about 15 minutes from campus, there is good food downtown.

Health & Safety:
It is an enclosed campus so that helps to make it safer. Also, there are street lights everywhere and at night, you hardly see anyone walking around campus that you don't know. If you're going somewhere on campus and don't want to walk alone, there is a shuttle you can call that will take you to your destination.

Students are required to live on campus all four years, with some exceptions. However, the apartments on campus are pretty nice and represent the sense of community that the school boasts.

Tuition is over $50k, but almost every student receives some type of need based aid or merit scholarship.
College Sophomore 2013-06-26T17:50:22Z
The most commonly used drug on campus is probably adderall.

Most parties revolve around Greek Life but other than that they don't do too much.

Guys & Girls:
Girls are literally awful at Furman. This place has literally made me suicidal. Don't go here. I repeat, don't go here!!!!!!!

The athletics on campus are not a huge focal point.
Recent Alumnus 2013-05-19T20:21:35Z
The campus is small and they have a bus on the weekends to downtown, but it is unreliable.
College Senior 2013-05-18T16:47:46Z
Really great computers, there are about 7 computer labs on campus plus everyone has a personal computer which makes things easier.
College Senior 2013-05-18T16:46:39Z
Campus housing is ok but is not worth the money students pay for it. Depending on class size there may or may not be enough housing, prices still increase and expectations are still the same. Not FAIR!
College Senior 2013-05-18T16:44:01Z
Off campus housing is very good and reasonable here is Greenville. Since Furman is ten minutes from downtown the location is beautiful to enjoy for a great price.

Guys & Girls:
The guys and girls at Furman University are very attractive but looks are all that they have. if you are looking for individuals who lack substance ans realization of the real world , go to Furman but if you are looking for something more in conversation Furman may not be the place for you.

The range of dining venues is perfect for a college student. From cheap fast food to local gems to high-class expensive downtown dining, everyone can find a place to suit his or her taste and budget. Local restaurants often offer discounts for students.
College Junior 2013-05-15T18:53:15Z
Although Furman represents many nationalities, the majority of the student body is upper class, white. That being said, Furman and its students are open to learning about each student and his or her ideas. The campus is primarily conservative, but the College Democrats won chapter of the year at the national conference this year. Each group on campus is confident and thrives in its individuality.
College Senior 2013-05-07T04:32:45Z
They're slow and the team spirit hardly exists. No one really looks forward to watching Furman football games. Most people who bother to wake up on a Saturday morning are only there to tailgate with their friends before/during the game.
College Senior 2013-05-07T04:30:01Z
They're all present but because the school is so small, the facilities are often small and obscure. No one has probably heard of that one club with 5 members just because of that reason, no matter what its about. With the student center renovations, campus hangouts are finally starting to form, but the library is still the main place.
College Senior 2013-05-07T04:25:20Z
The school has a small-school atmosphere, and also works hard to land you an internship or job once you graduate. It's nice that they don't release you without any post-graduating options.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
