Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is no question that Furman’s campus feels extremely safe. About half of the students never lock the doors to their rooms during the day or at night. Security may not be as tight as it is on other college campuses, but that’s because there isn’t really a need. Serious crimes rarely happen on campus, and if a student doesn’t feel safe walking alone at night, they can always call on a Public Safety officer to escort them. Although not necessarily the wisest decision, students often feel that they don’t have to exercise the same safety precautions as they would in the real world.

Public Safety maintains a highly visible presence on campus, which contributes to its feeling of safety. And while security is not a concern for most students, officers seem to do a good job of taking precautionary measures. Officers are constantly patrolling the campus and are quick to respond to any calls. Residence halls have additional security by requiring a swipe card or key to get into the building. However, doors are often propped open by students. Although Furman’s campus is gated, and they close the back gate every night, the front gate is always open. But if Furman’s security seems lax in some areas, that is only because there has never been a need for more rigorous safety precautions.

FU at It's Finest.

Furman's campus is very safe, the campus police patrol at even random hours of the night. One feels totally safe while walking to the library or where-ever late at night.

Very Safe

I feel very comfortable on campus. Foo Poo is great. Don't really have any safety issues that I can acknowledge about my campus life at Furman University. It's superior.

No Fear

The campus is really safe; I've never felt in danger. Public Safety is always willing to pick you up after a late night in the library and patrols 24/7. To be honest, I rarely locked my dorm door for two years and never had a problem. I wouldn't recommend that, but everyone is pretty high on the integrity scale here.
