College Prowler Take
While none are within walking distance of Furman, Greenville offers a wide variety of dining opportunities for students. There are a multitude of well-known chains within a few miles of the school. Many of the small, locally-owned restaurants are worth discovering. Besides serving delicious food, many give discounts to students and have great food at reasonable prices. For those with deeper pockets, Soby’s is known for its new Southern cuisine including shrimp and grits, and chicken-fried meatloaf. If you have room for dessert, stroll down the street to Spill the Beans for ice cream or Coffee Underground dessert and coffee. And finally, no Furman student’s night of partying is complete until you’ve made a 3 a.m. stop to Waffle House for hash browns smothered, covered, and scattered. Students who tire of the monotony of on-campus dining are not disappointed when they sample Greenville’s cuisine. For Greenville’s size, there is an amazing amount of new places to try all the time. The chain restaurants are consistently good, and the quirky local operations rarely disappoint. The level of service at nicer restaurants may not be the same as in larger metropolitan areas, but what college student can afford those restaurants anyway?

My favorite restaurant off campus...
My favorite restaurant off campus is Trio. It’s conveniently located in downtown Greenville, across the street from Coffee Underground, two places that are packed out around dessert time on weekend nights. If you’re in the mood for Mexican, Monterrey’s is the place to go. For late-night fun try Waffle House and Stax. And of course, you can’t spend too much time at Furman without stopping by Pete’s for the world’s greatest milkshakes! |

There are great restaurants. I suggest Lemongrass for Thai, Corona’s for Mexican, and then there’s the standard franchised restaurant fare (i.e. Ruby Tuesday). For delivery, there’s Rice Bowl, which is delicious, and Papa John’s. |

When your parents come into town,...
When your parents come into town, you have to take them to the Peddler for steaks, Flatrock, and Lemongrass for Thai. Other than that, there are lots of lower-priced restaurants to enjoy such as Thaicoon, and lots of fast food joints. Waffle House and Jack in the Box are always open for those late nights! |

Carson’s Country Kitchen, just off...
Carson’s Country Kitchen, just off Furman’s campus, makes you feel like you’ve just had a meal at home. The chicken pie served on Tuesdays and Thursdays is my favorite. |

Did You Know? If you come to Furman, you will become addicted to sweet tea, a Southern institution. It’s like regular iced tea only better! You will be hard-pressed to find a restaurant in Greenville that doesn’t serve sweet tea. Many restaurants give Furman student discounts on food and other stuff.
