Approximate Parking Permit CostGetting a Parking Permit
Pretty much everyone gets a parking permit who wants one. Students can only park in their assigned lots and in 15-minute spots during the day, but there are several places where you can park as long as you want after 5 p.m.
College Prowler Take
You can always find a close parking place at Furman, but in most cases, you are not allowed to park there. Students are only allowed to park in their reserved lot, and most other spaces are either reserved or 15-minute parking. Although most buildings on campus are about a 10-minute walk, many students still wish they could drive to class. Overall, students are able to keep a positive outlook on the parking situation, citing that the small size of Furman’s campus makes it an easy place to get around on foot. Furman has also improved parking somewhat by repaving and enlarging parking lots. Parking at Furman is probably better than most large universities. Every student is able to get a parking permit, and most students have a car. Having a parking space right outside your door is one of the nicest perks of living in the apartments. However, parking restrictions seem to tighten every year. The University removed almost all of the parking outside the library, and they decided to prohibit students from driving their cars to class during the day. What’s even more frustrating is Public Safety’s unwavering dedication to the enforcement of these policies by way of profuse ticketing.

Beware, Campus Police!
C-
Cars are definitely very useful to have, nothing worthwhile is in walking distance of campus. Permits cost $100 for the year, although will likely be 200 if you take into consideration the parking tickets. Fu-Po is on a power-trip. This is a college campus, kids don't have a lot of spare money lying around yet they give out tickets like chocolate in a candy store. Parking spaces are available but if your not supposed to park there, beware! Due to some overassigning lots some are more crowded than others. Parking is cut throat.

If you want a parking space on campus, you shouldn’t have trouble getting one, and the lots are closer than they are at many schools. Still, they can get pretty full, and there will certainly be a time when you choose not to make that run to Krispy Kreme just because you don’t want to walk to your car. |

It’s hard to find a good parking spot, but most of the housing parking is convenient. Since Furman is small, there really isn’t a need to drive a lot within campus. It’s actually more of a hassle. Bring a bike or walk. |

The parking stinks, so make sure you are ready for some parking tickets, and try as hard as you can to either walk or ride your bike everywhere. Otherwise, you will seriously end up in debt by the end of the year! |

While parking is not always as close as we would like, you are guaranteed a spot as long as your car is registered on campus. |

Once a student accumulates over $100 in ticket fines, or over ten tickets during a term, public safety will place “the boot” on your car. This bright orange lock on your wheel is the scarlet letter of parking violations.
