Toleration Everywhere

There are many, many groups on campus dedicated to diversity, political leanings, religion, and sexual orientation. LGBT, College Democrats/Republicans, and many ethnicity oriented groups.

FUPO

They keep you safe and will drive you back to your dorm from the library or Einstine's, but they are super annoying about parking and give out really expensive tickets.

Not Typical Greek Life

Being in a sorority or fraternity at Furman doesn't necessarily decide your friend group. I am an independent who has friends in almost every fraternity and sorority. Some greeks complain about this because they feel like the aren't getting the "greek experience" but overall I think it is a good thing. Frats are not known for hazing here, but also many of them no longer have houses due to new Greenville housing codes that prevent "non-families" from living in many neighborhoods. Therefore, Frats usually host parties downtown by renting out local clubs and bars, which is not typical compared to other schools or to how it used to before the housing codes changed, but still very fun (probably even better, because we aren't worried about getting busted). Furman is not a party school by any means, but if you want to go out and have fun you can.

Awesome

Upperclassmen dorms and apartments are the best, but compared to other colleges in SC the freshman dorms are great. Everything is nice and clean.

I LOVE IT

Furman has kicked my butt academically, but from a student life perspective, it is wonderful. The beautiful view with the lake, the wonderful choirs and other musical performances, the ease to find and make friends make this the best choice of my life. I am happy to be a Paladin, and I will proudly scream our cheer for the rest of my life: "F U ALL THE TIME!"

Greeks Do Homecoming

Homecoming is essentially the one BIG event for Greek Life to explode on campus, doing everything from welcoming back alumni to float building. Different organizations have little events throughout the year, but nothing dominates like the Homecoming competitions.

Mathematics and Economics Joint Major

I have to admit that the overall load is difficult on the mathematics side. Furman is not known now, nor will it ever be known for, it's math professors. They teach a very bland way that is difficult for many to understand and often requires individual teaching. The economics aspect is wonderful and fun, and I am glad that Furman offers a major that joins two majors into one in depth major.

Awesome Dining

They have 7 different restaurants that are in the dining hall. For example: Chick-fil-a and Moes.

Facilities

pretty much one of the nicest looking campuses i've seen. most facilities are excellent and modern. some of the older dorms aren't that nice though.

It's Alright

Even though our campus is supposed to be dry, I have seen empty beer cans and bottles around campus. I haven't seen drugs on campus though. There isn't much peer pressure on campus to use drugs either.

African American Greek Life

Furman does not have the divine nine which includes all African American Greek life. I wish that the Greek life could have more yard shows and could have more on campus events. I would like for Furman to have Greek houses but they are not permitted on campus. Furman has a lot of Caucasian sororities and they are very involved on campus and I would like for the African American Greek's to be this way and I would like for Furman to have all of the African American Greeks represented.

Social Realm of Furman University

Furman is a beautiful University with a lot of trees and a lot of nice buildings. The reason I think Furman is such a beautiful campus is because tuition is so high. I was not able to stay at Furman due to the cost. I enjoyed Furman's social atmosphere the students hung out and had a good time. I do not like how Furman's game room's close early it would give the students more to do if it was open later. I also think that housing was an easy process, checking in and out was very easy and well managed. I feel however that not all of Furman's housing is the same as far as presence by this I mean that some housing has better appliances than others.

Nothing that's great, comes easy.

Furman is hard academically, harder than most people recognize. But the teachers are great- you can meet with them anytime, they want to help you out, and most of them are able to recognize effort especially since the classes are smaller. Furman has the best facilities, the nicest classrooms and equipment. Also, the school will pay for any tutoring you need. Furman is hard but every grad school and most companies out there know it. Furman students are more prepared than most college students going into jobs and grad school. The school will pay students for research that they do on campus and will also pay for any internship that you get, even if its at another company so that you are more likely to be hired- because the school will pay your salary rather than the company. They want their students to be educated in and outside the classroom.

Facilities Are Awesome

All of the buildings are clean, new, and look amazing. The campus is so beautiful with the architecture of these buildings. The gym is great, and it makes exercising enjoyable.

The facilities on Furman's campus...

The facilities on Furman's campus are very nice. That's probably one of the best things about Furman. We essentially attend school at a country club. The Physical Activities Center (PAC) has been newly renovated and looks great--pool, locker rooms, weight gym, two full basketball courts, workout studios, classrooms, etc.

The facilities are all up to date and constantly being updated. Nothing here is old. The technology in every classroom is beyond sufficient and everything is what you want. The gym was just renovated and there are plenty of work-out stations. The library has every resource imaginable.

Furman is about 15 minutes from...

Furman is about 15 minutes from downtown Greenville, so if you want to go, you really need your own car. There is a shuttle that runs Thursday through Sunday, but it's not always available. There is always someone willing to take you to the grocery store or errands though. Most people have cars.

The facilities are amazing. The brand new science building is state-of-the-art, and the PAC (physical activities center) is being redone as we speak. Everything is very up to date, and Furman makes a real effort to be green, an added bonus.

For the underage crowd, fraternity...

For the underage crowd, fraternity parties make up the bulk of the party scene, and most students are content with the options they have for parties in this scene. Once 21, downtown offers a multitude of bars and clubs. Students especially enjoy Liberty Taproom and going to Greenville Drive (baseball) games during the season. City Tavern, a bar locally called Tassie's which serves frozen drinks spiked with Everclear is another favorite.

Furman has a shuttle that can take you as far as the grocery store during the week and the "drunk bus" can go up to 10 miles off campus on Friday and Saturday nights. The Greenville system doesn't even stop at Furman, though.

There are parties on campus even...

There are parties on campus even though it's a dry campus. You just have to use your brain and don't do anything stupid if you don't want to get caught. The biggest party scene is at the fraternity houses, all of which are relatively close to campus. Downtown is really cute! My biggest beef with it is that everything has to close by 2 a.m., but that seems to be the case in a lot of the south. The best spots downtown are Brown's, a jazz club, Barley's Pizza (almost 100 beers on tap), and Liberty Taproom, which has good drinks but is usually too crowded for comfort. Wild Wings is decent, too.

I'm only a sophomore, but I've...

I'm only a sophomore, but I've already seen the science building and the physical activities center completely renovated while I've been here. Wireless Internet is available just about everywhere. The library is beautiful; study there often. Riley Hall is trippy; walk down it at least once to appreciate the "study-friendly" color scheme. The dorms even have common areas for studying and large-group events.

Furman is technically a dry campus, but if you're into the drinking scene, you can find it. Although it's not allowed in any on-campus housing, if you're reasonably quiet about it, you should be good. Furthermore, there is an amnesty policy in place where if anyone gets sick or in danger, you won't be penalized if you alert the infirmary. It seems like the Furman Police spend more time giving out parking tickets than breaking up any drinking parties.

Off-campus housing is not allowed...

Off-campus housing is not allowed until a student is a senior, and then they must apply to live off campus and recieve permission. Furman recently purchased an apartment complex within a mile of campus that will soon be open for students to live in. Fraternity houses are also allowed to house senior males. Off-campus housing is definitely worth it because Furman is a dry campus for even those who are of age and it is against the rules to consume or pocess alcohol on campus.

Furman has a great library with lots of resources. The physical activities center was just recently renovated and is a great facility overall. The University Center has its own small movie theater and also some restaurants, including Moe's!
