College Prowler Take
Public transportation is rarely ever used by Furman students. Greenville is a city primarily traversed by cars, and Furman students are no different. The overwhelming majority bring their own cars with them to school. The AFS Shuttle, or the drunk bus, is run by Furman student volunteers on the weekends. The shuttle has been an extremely positive initiative by the association of Furman Students as a guaranteed sober ride on the weekends. However, there is only one shuttle causing students to have to wait over an hour sometimes before they are picked up. Greenville’s public transportation system is comprised of city buses, but most Furman students are unfamiliar with the system. There is no bus stop on Furman’s campus, leaving students without a car with few options other than bumming a ride or borrowing a car from a friend.

Furman is about 15 minutes from downtown Greenville, so if you want to go, you really need your own car. There is a shuttle that runs Thursday through Sunday, but it's not always available. There is always someone willing to take you to the grocery store or errands though. Most people have cars.

Furman has a shuttle that can take you as far as the grocery store during the week and the "drunk bus" can go up to 10 miles off campus on Friday and Saturday nights. The Greenville system doesn't even stop at Furman, though.

I can’t comment on public transportation around Greenville because I have a car, but most students have cars. Even if they don’t, there is always a friend willing to lend a ride. There really isn’t anything within walking distance, so some form of transportation is a necessity. |
