Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Geneva dining isn’t what you’d call "gourmet." The variety offered in Alex’s (the students’ name for Alexander Hall) is at first overwhelming, then inviting, but quickly tired. Often, students find a few dishes they like then repeat them on a weekly cycle. Nevertheless, visitors from other schools often laud the cafeteria food, insisting that it’s much better than their own schools’ dining options. With a little creativity, Alex’s dining can be quite good. The main line is often greasy and unappetizing, but the MTO (made-to-order) and self-serve stations are excellent, and the kitchen hires one woman whose sole job is to bake delicious cakes and cookies for the dessert bar, which she does with gusto. Weekend meals suffer, but most students enjoy the Sunday lunch buffet.

The Student Center features the campus’s satellite dining area, "the Brig" (Brigadoon restaurant), and the Riverview coffee shop. The Brig offers to-go options for class-bound students or sit-down options for those seeking a break from Alex’s. Many students lament the lack of healthy Brig options, but you can’t beat the convenience. The Brig offers exchange meals, where a meal swipe gives you an entrée, side dish, fruit item, dessert, and beverage, and recently they introduced the Exchange Meal Plus, where flex points or cash can upgrade your entrée to a rotating delicacy, from pepperoni rolls to crab cakes. Both the Brig and the Riverview accept flex points for a variety of snacks and beverages, including Smart Water, fruit juices, and Monster energy drinks. Students love the friendly Brig staff; many of the staff members know students by name.

Alright but It Gets Old

I am not too picky of an eater, but there comes a point when leftovers should not be left over to another day. Geneva's dining hall has good days and bad days. When they make fresh good food, it is amazing. But when they re-use food from previous days, (especially on weekends) it can go from bad to disgusting really fast.

Sub Par

The food at Geneva isn't anything special. There are two places to eat, the main cafeteria and then the Brig. The Brig has the same foods everyday, no variety. The main cafeteria isn't much better. You'll find yourself getting sick of what you eat relatively quickly here.

Gets Old

There are two dining halls. The main one is okay but gets old, as does the smaller one. Could use more options and seating, especially during lunch time when it gets crowded.
