Overall Safe in a Bad Area

The surroundings of Geneva College are very unsafe, but the security staff on campus takes extra measures to make the students feel safe. We often receive emails to let us know if we should take extra precautions such as making sure we lock our doors because there was someone seen looking into cars.

The professors at Geneva are the best. They will spend extra time helping you succeed. The placement office works very hard to help students find ajob after graduation. The facilites have really been improving iver the last couple of years as they are renovating and upgrading.

Not Tolerant

Geneva, being a Christian college, does not allow ANY use or possession of drugs and alcohol. I have never seen any one trying to drink or do drugs. I'm sure partying happens, but definitely NOT on campus. There is absolutely no peer pressure to drink or do drugs.

Challenging Curriculum

Geneva prides itself on its slogan..."Accept the Challenge". With that being said, Geneva is a very challenging school for academics. It is obviously a lot harder than high school and I feel it is much harder than public colleges and universities. You have to put in A LOT of work to get good grades

Getting Ready for the Ride

My first day is tomorrow so I haven't actually attended class there yet. So far my experience with the college has been terrific! Everyone has been extremely helpful. I am very excited to start. Geneva is a Christian college, and I am very thankful for that as I have attended a community college up til now.

A Safe Place

Drug and alcohol usage is not very common, and I have never felt pressured to be involved in such activities. Geneva is a dry campus, and this policy is well enforced.

Very high course load, lots of work. Teachers are tough graders but for the most part fair. They push you to be your best, and they have a 100% hire rate after school.

Not Challenging, but Hardly Shabby.

I'm an honours student with a 3.96 GPA. I take 19 credits a semester because I'm a double major with a minor, work at least seven hours a week, and still have time for Bible studies and a movie. I won't lie--with that kind of workload, I don't really sleep. But my first semester I took 17 credits without working, and I never touched my homework on weekends. The academic situation will not knock your socks off with cutting-edge ideas and a stunningly original classroom environment, and if you're a focused worker you can make straight As without putting your brain into overdrive, but it's solid. The core curriculum needs a major overhaul--Bible, communications, English 101, SCS 110, and Learning and Transition are all "pass without thinking," "learn because we gotta teach," "no undue scholarship going on here" sorts of things. Mindless and lifeless, really. If they would do a few revamps, however, I would give the core courses a high rating for well-roundedness.

The professors are the selling point for the university, and the main reason that I'm going to give this a decent rating. They don't grade hard or teach revolutionary things, but they're wonderful people, and many of them are extremely brilliant in their fields. They're always willing to talk to you, and your advisors generally have their heads on straight. They are models of Christian life and thought, and will change your life at least twice per year.

Most of the classes within my fields of study--all liberal arts--have been wonderful. Can't speak for the sciences, but I've heard largely good things.

Bottom line: great professors, average to slightly sub-average scholarship, good learning experience! If you want to be challenged, pile on the credits, be a perfectionist about your GPA, and have fun!

Wondeful and Rewarding Experience

I am a biology major, but I have been taking mostly General Education classes for three semesters. I have found immense help from my advisor in laying out my 3 year plan and help with my future as I think about pursuing a Master's. The work load is heavy, but productive and I have learned so much. The Science and Engineering building on campus is equipped with the technolog needed to learn and explore.

Not Enough Space for Students

Geneva tries to house too many students in too little space. They have also turned the nicest dorms into freshman dorms, relegating upperclassmen to the apartments, which are not well maintained. With too many students on campus, lounges have been turned into bedrooms, and many rooms have more students living in them than originally intended. Stop accepting too many students, or allow more students to live off campus please!

If You Need Something Fixed, Do It Yourself or Get It in ASAP

Tech Services can be on top of things, but you must be on top of them to get your computer fixed. Usually I try to figure out what the problem is and then I will try to fix things myself before going to them, because they take awhile to get your computer back to you. So, if I can't do anything about my computer I will identify the problem and tell them exactly what it is that needs help and they will do it with me standing there.

We have plenty of parking on campus at Geneva for our student body. We also have a not-so-bad cost for permits and/or tickets and fines.

Parties Off Campus.

The drug scene at Geneva College is almost nonexistant. Most students who drink or do drugs do so off campus because Geneva has an enforced rule against that. Parties take place off campus for those who want to join.

The Strength of Community

At Geneva we do not have a Greek system. I would argue that this creates a better community for students. You build strong relationships with the people on your floors in the dorms, and some even have fun names like the brotherhood. Camaraderie and community are written into the very character of Geneva.

A Walking Weekend at Geneva

There are a lot of fun little family-owned restaurants that are great to stop in for any meal. Also the movie theater is pretty nice for only $5 that is always a Friday night option. And of course the Walmart that is always busy and filled with Geneva students. We as a campus are also involved in a lot of off-campus ministry which helps the community, and it helps to integrate us into their world. Geneva, like any other college, can be a bubble and community work is a great way to get out and see how the world is and the impact that you can make on it. Geneva is not always well liked by the people of Beaver Falls, but over the years we have started to build a stronger relationship with the people and it is growing and developing into a wonderful friendship between the students and the community.

Really Excellent Advisors

I've only just declared Biblical Studies at Geneva College, but I've already noticed that the department is much more helpful for deciding classes than other departments are. Many departments are more into "What do you feel like taking?" while the Bible department says, "Ok, we need you to take these classes; now, these couple fit what I know of from your interests and would fit with the classes you need to take for core and major requirements."

This is an expensive school but at least it is generous with the scholarships. There are quite a few you can get but in the end most students still need government aid... even the really smart ones who get good grades.
