Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are plenty of students who do drugs at GW—most commonly, students smoke pot, drink alcohol, and smoke cigarettes. A lot of students talk about, sell, and smoke pot on a regular basis. But for students who are not interested in drugs, there is rarely any pressure to partake. People mostly associate with others who share their views on drugs.

Alcohol is the most popular drug on campus. GW students love drinking—many taking it to excess. Study drugs, such as Adderall and Ritalin, are very popular on campus. Students pop these prescription pills before a long night at the library to stay up late writing a paper or cramming for an exam. There are some harder drugs on campus, such as cocaine and ecstasy, but everyone knows which social circles use those harder drugs, and staying away from them is easy. Harder drugs are definitely not as visible as alcohol, pot, and study drugs.

"Emerge" Is Very Adequate

they take very good care of overly drunk kids. However, if you get "emerged" you end up at Georgetown hospital rather than GW hospital because they don't want people to think they are "emerging" you to make money. THis is a problem because if you don't have money you need to call friends to come get you or walk back to campus in heels & going out clothes.

Drinking Is Big

GW students drink a lot, it's the most probably by far compared to other things. I wouldn't say there is a lot of peer pressure, people just do it, it's the norm on campus. If you're under 21 without an ID then you're probably pre gamming pretty hard in a dorm before heading out to a club. That being said if you don't drink or want to get involved with that stuff you won't be left out, you'll be in the minority, but not alone. UPD is has a pretty strong presence in freshmen and sophomore dorms, but less so in upperclassmen housing.

Drinking Is More Popular

The drug scene is not big at all, but it all depends on who you hang out with and what you are into. There is plenty of partying here though, mostly drinking in dorm rooms, clubs, apartments, and frat housing. Also it's easy to stay out of trouble if you are drinking.
