College Prowler Take

There is no need to bring a car to GW. It becomes more of a hassle than a bonus to look for parking, pay for parking, and make sure your car does not get towed if parked illegally. There are several on-campus garages not affiliated with the University that underclassman students can use, but they are all very expensive ($710 per month), and space is rather limited. Many off-campus apartment buildings have garages, too, but they can be equally expensive. It is also difficult to find a spot on the street when going out—day or night—in Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan, and other crowded areas.

The vast majority of GW students do not have cars. Most see no need to spend the extra money on something they will rarely use. Yes, a car is convenient for traveling home and cheaper than flying or taking a train. But finding parking and paying for it is so difficult that most students prefer to use public transportation when going home, visiting a friend at another school, or traveling around DC. Students with cars will find their services in high demand when their friends, or eve people they hardly know, want to take a trip to the IHOP in Virginia.

My suggestion is not to bring a car. You won’t need it, and it will be a large expense. Campus street parking is metered during the week, and there are garages, but they charge a lot. I got by for four years without a car.

You don’t need a car at all. Between the Metro and cabs, not to mention walking, having your own car is just not needed. From what I’ve noticed, parking gets a little hard to do and expensive.

Don’t bring a car; it’s not worth it. There are always taxi services and Metro subways that take you anywhere you need. You won’t need a car until at least junior year, if ever. Plus, in the city, it’s expensive to maintain a car.

I would not bring a car. Parking is ridiculously expensive. Mostly everyone walks or takes the Metro. Sometimes we take cabs, but not as often. It is a city, so it is not easy to find a parking space.
