DC has a pretty regular four-season climate. When students arrive in late August, it is still very hot and muggy, and the weather stays warm until late fall when the cold front moves in. Winters are pretty cold, and most get caught off-guard by the powerful winds that can tunnel through the city. Remember to bring a wool or down coat, sweaters, long pants, and boots. In the fall and spring, students wear jeans, Capri pants, and light jackets. But get ready for some hot, hot summers when planning to stay in DC. The humidity and heat can be unbearable, so take a dip in the Hall on Virginia Avenue’s rooftop pool or City Hall’s pool to cool off, or hope your internship office is air-conditioned (don’t worry, dorms are).
Bring a variety of clothing to GW—pants, shorts, T-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, sweaters, jackets, and coats. You’ll need it all. And don’t forget an umbrella—rain is pretty common in the District.
