Special Options
- With the hundreds of restaurants in the Georgetown area, students much prefer to go off campus and eat than to stay on campus. Another popular option is to stock up on pantry foods at Safeway and make your own dinner, especially if you live in an apartment that has a full kitchen. It’s a bit more difficult in typical dorms, but it can be done. Favorite are macaroni and cheese or plain pasta. Some students even cook their own steaks in the common room.
College Prowler Take
For the most part, Georgetown students maintain an enlightened air of resignation when it comes to campus food: they don’t love it, but they have enough friends at other universities to know that what they’re getting is at least as good as the East Coast average. The cafeteria and meal-planning staff is grudgingly credited with doing the best that they probably can, given the circumstances, though students are often incredulous that, given the high price of Georgetown meal plans, the quality and variety of the food isn’t higher. All in all, the situation can be pretty plainly summarized: if your main dietary requirement has to do with quantity (i.e., guys) you’ll be fine. If you’re more interest in the subtleties of the palate (i.e., girls), you should think about purchasing a smaller meal plan and looking to feed yourself off campus whenever possible. College dining, as has been suggested by any number of American movies, is never going to be anything to write home about. What’s largely overlooked, when it comes to the question of campus dining, is the important social function served by the cafeterias, one of which is planted firmly in the midst of the three freshman dorms. The extremely easy accessibility of the dining halls (a three-minute walk from the freshman halls) is not to be overlooked—there are few more comforting first year rituals than that of grabbing something to eat with some newfound or prospective friends.

The dining hall is quite awful. It gets repetitive, although the ice cream and cookies are fabulous. There are many places to get food: in the student center are fast-food chains and around the neighborhood are little sandwich and places to eat—Wingo's, Wisey's, Booey's, and Sweet Green.

The food on campus is awful. Leo's, the dining hall, sucks! The only good place is Epicurean, but it is very expensive!

Leo's is the main dining hall on campus. Wisey's is great, and so is Booey's. Find other places besides the dining hall to eat on the weekends!

The food on campus is very good. Leo's dining hall provides stir-fry station, pasta station, pizza, and all the ice cream you could ask for. Some restaurants near by are The Tombs, which is a local hot spot, as well as lots of restaurants on M street, like Qdoba or Chipotle.

They have decent food—the most you can expect from a college. There is a system of Debit Dollars that you can use from your student account if you want to order out. Kids order out a lot; there is Italian, Chinese, Greek, and Thai delivery in the area. There is also a small food court in the student center. |
