Georgetown’s Jesuit identity prevents the sale of both birth control and condoms on campus. The closest place to get them is CVS on Wisconsin Avenue. Furthermore, Georgetown’s pro-choice abortion group, H*yas for Choice, is not a recognized group on campus.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most students agree that the dating scene is pretty informal. Dating is far less common than the ever-popular random hookup, and those who do date are quite often involved in long term-relationships. Most Hoyas are not at a loss when asked to explain this dynamic of frenetic coupling and re-coupling: quite simply, they point out, Georgetown is full of sexy people. It’s a smorgasbord of beauty. A very high proportion of the students would not be out of place in fashion catalogues—and this has only partly to do with their clothing. There is, in fact, a marked and famed difference between the attractiveness of Georgetown students and those of other universities in the area. For what it’s worth, the admissions committee does request that applicants include photographs of themselves when they send in their application.

Word on the street has it that the girls have a reputation for being haughty and hard-to-get, but the word on the street has a funny way of forgetting that this might be because most of the guys have a reputation for thinking about sex, alcohol, sleep, and career opportunities—in that order. The truth is that, in terms of the dating scene, you’re going to get a mix much like the one you’d get anyplace else. It’s hard to put a single label on 6,000 people—that is, when it comes to romantic aspirations. When it comes to physical attractiveness, there’s no problem at all—people at Georgetown are hot.

Preppy but Friendly

You definitely have a TON of rich private-school kids, but also a bunch of kids from public schools, and then some kids that aren't as wealthy as the norm. You find your niche pretty quickly, but you do have to get involved in campus- they won't come running to you.

Prep Central

Everyone is attractive, but in a homogeneous way. Northfaces, UGGs, and Longchamp bags predominate campus fashion. People are very preppy and have too much similar style choices

Maxim's Hot 100

So if Maxim rated the top prestigious schools in order of attractiveness Georgetown would certainly be at the top. Like any school with smart students there is definitely the nerdy looking girls and guys, but there are some surprisingly good looking people as well. Mostly white, but you can definitely find a little colorful flavor in the mix as well. It makes me wonder if that's part of the interview process as well (lol jk).

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

Georgetown students definitely embody the work hard-play hard mentality. During the week, students study vigorously and focus on their schoolwork, and the social scene is kept pretty quiet. However, the social scene really picks up on the weekends, when several parties are hosted each night. With local parties, clubs, and bars, Georgetown students keep themselves busy all weekend long.

Hookups or Relationships?

Like most universities, large numbers of Georgetown students go out weekend after weekend looking for random hookups and one-night stands. This is especially noticeable among the younger grades, when the new college student feels the need to live up to college stereotypes. However, there are sizable groups among the singles pool with interest in dating; the trick is finding someone else who feels the same.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Since Georgetown students take their schoolwork pretty seriously, it is pretty common to meet a significant other in a class or study group. Certainly, living on coed dorms also provides ample opportunity to meet those of the other sex. Finally, a popular way to strike up conversation with a potential mate on campus during the warm months is to venture out to Healy or Copley lawns with picnic basket and blanket in tow, while keeping an eye out for some attractive new faces.

Dress Code

Georgetown students have the awful reputation of being typical preppy college students, clones wearing flipped collars and Rainbow flip-flops. However, in recent years, students have ventured away from this image toward more unique and fashion-forward styles. Guys are still often seen around campus in Polo shirts and Madras plaid shorts, yet more guys are beginning to wear more casual jeans and T-shirts. Girls’ clothing has much more variety; girls are now seen wearing more chic clothes like skinny jeans and a flowy top than the typical preppy attire. Almost everyone wears sandals or UGG boots.
