Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Georgetown students love their environment. During the day, Washington offers internships and employment opportunities that are literally not available anyplace else on earth. As long as you’re interested in government, journalism, or law, there will always be a place for you to get your feet wet. At night, DC is just as happy to cater to the needs of college students, with several neighborhoods around the town—including the one in which the University is situated—economically dependent on undergraduates’ need to cram themselves into bars and holler praise at the serendipity of life until the wee hours of the morning. Washington’s main weakness is that you’ve got to pay to play, and like any major metropolis, everything from toilet paper to lobster costs more than it probably should.

It’s often said that the neighborhood of Georgetown seems to have been designed with college students in mind, and that might be true, depending on one’s definition of “college student.” If a college student is someone who 1) has direct access to the bank account of a parent at the helm of a Fortune 500 company, or 2) is comfortable living in an elitist area whose adult residents are openly hostile towards students and do everything they can to make life miserable for the University
. . . then, golly, Georgetown surely was designed for college students. To be fair, Georgetown students have certainly done their part to drive up prices and irritate the neighbors, but it should be noted that if a “college student” is someone who will grudgingly walk the five blocks through a community of pale, snooty people who don’t smile, just to get to the cheap ($12 a plate) hamburger joint, then perhaps said “college student” should think about going to GW.

Expensive, but Worth Every Penny

The wealthy neighbors can be a pain and everything is overpriced but there's just so much to do in Georgetown! There's really no other neighborhood like it. Shops, bars, restaurants, etc. It's easy to forget that all of DC is just one GUTS bus ride away when you have so much to do close to campus.

Couldn't Be Better (But Expensive !)

Its the best neighborhood in Washington DC, as well as the most expensive. There's endless shopping and dining places to experience, but beware that its not cheap. The most affordable clothing stores are H&M/express/victoria's secret, and the next up is probably Urban Outfitters. It gets worse after that with places like Nine West, Coach, Ralph Lauren, and Betsy Johnson. Still, window shopping is fun and you can always find key items at these places for your wardrobe and often there are student discounts. The cheapest restaurant places are chipotle and qudoba (considered the "fast food" of georgetown) but theres also places like cvs. Overall, its a great place to live but unless you're rich (most students are annyways) you'll have to budget. Haven't been out into the city much but I imagine theres a lot more options.

Its worth living here because there is so much to do and see and youre in a great metropolitan area just a few minutes from the district.

Georgetown Is Awesome

Georgetown is an amazing place. The colonial architecture, amazing shopping, great cuisine, easy access to history (DC), and overall atmosphere is perfect. It is an ideal college town.
