Variety of Color...But That's About It

So Georgetown has made this big deal about being an economically and ethnically diverse school, and it's apparent in the different types of people you see...but diversity basically stops there. People tend to have the same personality and fashion sense, so it makes an otherwise scenic and enjoyable stroll about campus boring.

Sports Are Big If You Want Them to Be

Sports are definitely a noticeable part of being a Hoya. However, the campus doesn't revolve around them. Basketball is HUGE at Georgetown and is the only sport the whole campus comes out to see. There's definitely a lot of hoya pride, but sports are not the priority of Georgetown.

Georgetown Is Honestly Amazing

I have only been here a year, but it has been one of the greatest times of my life. School work can be stressful at times being pre-med, but it is fairly manageable and there is always time to participate in clubs and other activities. It's a blast going out at night and there is always things to do. The people here are great and the girls are hot. I would highly recommend going here.

Sandwiches, Burritos and Burgers... Oh My!

There's a LOT of options around campus, and the thing that's helpful is that most of these locations take GOCard money (the student ID card that's needed for access to dorms, meal plans, etc.). Wisey's has fantastic sandwiches (especially the Chicken Madness), Q'doba offers half price dinner on Mondays, Chipotle gives Georgetown students a free drink with every meal, and Five Guys is open until 4 AM (!!) on weekends. Wingo's has great chicken wings and fingers, and Kitchen No. 1 provides the quintessential Chinese food.

House Parties and Bars

The nightlife revolves around two cultures:house parties and bars. Georgetown's housing is based on most students living in apartments or townhouses. Accordingly, parties are hosted by students who own houses. This makes freshman year particularly challenging because freshman live in dorms. Many freshman go to house parties; however, most times freshman do not know the people who live there so it can be a bit boring and repetitive. As an upperclassman there is never a lack of places to go. In addition to house parties, many students go to bars. There are great bars in the area and they are a lot of fun. However, it makes it almost obligatory to have a fake I.D. if you are underage. There is not a great on campus night life scene for students who are not interested in drinking, unless you are willing to adventure off campus and get involved in D.C.

Attractive

There is a great deal of diversity within the student body, although at first glance it might not appear that way. Many students at Georgetown are preppy but most try to differentiate themselves in some way which leads to some quirkiness. There is definitely a sense of people wanting to look put together when they go out. Athletes wear sweats and you will see lots of people wearing athletic clothes because people are pretty fit on campus. After visiting other schools I realized how attractive our campus is overall.

Living in DC

I live off campus this year and will be living off campus next year as well. The interesting thing about Georgetown is that you are treated like an independent adult in all interactions with the University. The same holds true for off campus housing. If you want to live off campus it is on you to search for a place. There are always tons of houses on the market with a huge price range. If you want to live in front of the University it will be very pricey but the houses are great. If you are looking for something cheaper you can live on the other side of campus in Burleith. There is a vibrant off campus life. Georgetown owns a lot of houses outside of the gates so it is hard to define 'off campus.' I rent a house with friends but I live across the street from a dorm.

Georgetown Is Amazing

You will never find a school like Georgetown - it has amazing academics, incredible resources, gorgeous campus, beautiful city, and a really great environment. On top of that, it has great-looking students who love to party and have a good time - parties are fun and not hard to come by. As long as you're an interesting person and are outgoing, you will love Georgetown - just make sure you can manage your work (which is significant) and partying

Absolutely Amazing...If You Have Money

Georgetown is located just minutes from the cutesy, bustling shopping district of M Street and Wisconsin Avenue. There are lots of adorable restaurants, ranging from Crepe Amour to Sweetgreen (salads and fro-yo), from student favorites like Wisey's and the Tombs to fancier places like 1789. A mealtime trip to M Street can be a really fun break from Leo's, but if you're a broke student with rich friends like me, it can be a bit exasperating, because anything interesting is not really in a poor kid's budget.

More Self-Segregated Than It Should Be

On paper, Georgetown's diversity isn't that bad. In practice... people tend to hang out with their own race. Everyone's amicable, but I've never seen anything like it. It's definitely worse than it should be for a school of this reputation. There's also a huge gap between rich kids and those on financial aid... not a lot of middle ground.

I Don't Really Use the Labs but They're Available to All

Since most students have their own computers and you can print wirelessly, most of the computers are always free. Network speed is usually great but certain buildings still use HOYAS which isn't too reliable.

Freshman Dorms

Overall, the dorms here are pretty nice as long as you don't get stuck with Darnall. Harbin (social and you can become close with your clustermates, awkward room layouts but big), New South (newest, big rooms with awkward layout, social but not intimate), and VCW (own bathrooms but TINY rooms) are all close together and by Leo's (the only dining hall) so its kind of a "freshman social area" where you see/run into a lot of people. BEWARE OF DARNALL: in opposite corner of campus, 10-15 walk from Leo's, small/muggy rooms with little light, disgusting bathrooms, slow elevators, stairs up to lobby/RHO, separated from rest of freshman campus. Henle (sophomore/junior apartments) is in the same location and no one complains, but thats because your friends will be all over the place as well. It sucks being left our of the 3-dorm freshman cluster, and yeah you will become noticeably closer with your floor/dorm mates than everyone else but I dont think its worth it. And you mostly bond over the fact that your dorm sucks. If you have a horrible floor, you are forced to hang out with them. My best friends are in New South and no one ever wants to come over here, also walks on the way back down alleyways/by parking garages and the hospital are dangerous/scary and cold in the winter time. Housing is random so you don't really have a choice, but there's always the option of trying to switch out if you get Darnall (which I would definitely recommend)

Inspiring

The academics at Georgetown are unlike anywhere else. We have amazing professors (specifically the jesuits who have chosen to dedicate their lives to the art of teaching), fascinating seminars for freshman that are specific to their area of study, excellent major advisors, and unparalleled guest speakers. The academics are rigorous and challenging, but that is what you get at one of the most prestigious schools in the country.

50% Caucasian, Mix of Rest

You see lots of white kids on campus, sure, but there are lots of other races as well. There are so many clubs for diversity that you'd never have to make one. As for religious diversity, you have every possible kind. Economic: mostly rich kids, but personally, a lot of kids here are on financial aid and that's okay.

Expensive

Apartments are expensive. This is unsurprising considering it is the nation's capitals and one of the most soft after neighborhoods in the city. Most people live in Rosslyn or other DC areas for cheaper rent.

Well, It Is College

Most students are going to experiment with alcohol or even drugs during their four years of college. Alcohol is a visible presence on the weekends, especially if one is out partying at upperclassman apartments. But some Hoyas do not drink, and the peer pressure for drinking is nonexistent. In my experience, everyone seems to respect the decision of a student not to drink, and it is a personal decision. There are many other activities on campus that are alcohol-free if a student does not drink. Authorities (mainly, Residence Advisors) are pretty lenient/forgiving, but if you blatantly have alcohol in your possession, then you will get written up. Georgetown also has an on-campus, student-run EMT service that is always available in case of emergencies.

Very Diverse in Experiences and Opinions

Diversity is such a key part of the Georgetown experience. You are guaranteed to meet people from all different backgrounds and ideologies. Politics is a subject of notable interest on campus, and there have been many times when I have had discussions with friends about political issues. Every opinion is represented, and you will surely find someone who shares your ideas. Likewise, it is always interesting to converse with someone with different beliefs. This diversity truly molds your view of the world. Due to this diversity, acceptance into the Georgetown community is easy for anyone. However, there is a noticeable white, Catholic, wealthy population on campus- but these students are just as accepting (and intelligent) as everyone else.
