You can buy cigarettes on campus...

You can buy cigarettes on campus but not condoms. However, H*yas For Choice, a student group NOT affiliated with the university hands out condoms for free in Red Square.

Freshmen don't need to worry if...

Freshmen don't need to worry if they stay on campus. You can't drink in your dorm, but you can attend upperclassmen parties in Village A and Henle Village. However, watch out if you go off campus. Metro PD likes nothing more than to bust up parties, write tickets for noise complaints, and arrest students for having an open container.

The weather is very mild winters and hot springs. You should bring summer and winter clothes.

They're nice and available, but the buildings are kind of old. The equipment is relatively new, at least in the athletic facilities.

The dining hall is quite awful. It gets repetitive, although the ice cream and cookies are fabulous. There are many places to get food: in the student center are fast-food chains and around the neighborhood are little sandwich and places to eat—Wingo's, Wisey's, Booey's, and Sweet Green.

There is a lot of drinking at Georgetown. There are considerable amounts of people who smoke pot. I feel like that's it, for the most part.

The dining hall sucks—the food,...

The dining hall sucks—the food, not necessarily the place. The gym is fabulous. The campus is quite small in comparison to other places. There are libraries you can work in, or you can work in classrooms and lounges. I love the coffee joints; they are marvelous. One of the most popular hangouts is the second floor of the library: it's not a quiet section by any means and it is right next to the coffee shop.

The weather is much warmer than I expected. It rarely snows, and the winters are mild. The summers can get pretty hot, but school is out between early May and late August, so you miss most of it.

The library is pretty nice. There aren't enough group study spaces, but in general it's a great library, especially with the coffee shop in there. The student center is okay, but there isn't much there.

Varsity sports are not that big at...

Varsity sports are not that big at all, except for basketball. During most basketball seasons, the campus lives and breathes it. IM sports are more popular.

The drug scene is really minimal....

The drug scene is really minimal. Drinking is much, much bigger.

It rains much more in Washington,...

It rains much more in Washington, DC than you would think. Certainly bring rain boots, a raincoat, and an umbrella. Winters can be very cold, but luckily the campus is small enough that exposure to the elements is limited. However, if you want to get out and about in DC for events like concerts, bring lots of warm clothes for bundling up. Overall, you should bring all types of clothing.

The facilities at Georgetown are...

The facilities at Georgetown are decent. Yates Field House is a nice gym that offers pretty much everything, including lots of intramural sports. The classes, however, recently went from being free to costing quite a bit of money, even though a Yates gym fee is included in tuition. Lauinger Library has wonderful collections but is much too small for a student body as large as Georgetown's—study space is limited. Quiet study space overall is rather limited on campus.

Alcohol is absolutely everywhere...

Alcohol is absolutely everywhere and will not be hard to find. Marijuana is pretty prevalent as well, though you won't find pressure to smoke. I have yet to encounter anything harder than pot, though I'm sure its there if you look for it.

The Metro in DC is really easy and...

The Metro in DC is really easy and convenient. Getting there, however, can be a hassle. Georgetown runs GUTS buses regularly on weekdays, but only every few hours on the weekends. There's always a Metro bus that leaves Georgetown, though.

The food on campus is awful....

The food on campus is awful. Leo's, the dining hall, sucks! The only good place is Epicurean, but it is very expensive!

Leo's is the main dining hall on campus. Wisey's is great, and so is Booey's. Find other places besides the dining hall to eat on the weekends!

The library and gym are getting old, but they are totally functional.

Though many complain that there is...

Though many complain that there is not a Metro stop right near campus, there are free buses that take students to the nearest Metro stop. From there, you can get anywhere in the city.

The food on campus is very good....

The food on campus is very good. Leo's dining hall provides stir-fry station, pasta station, pizza, and all the ice cream you could ask for. Some restaurants near by are The Tombs, which is a local hot spot, as well as lots of restaurants on M street, like Qdoba or Chipotle.

Varsity basketball is huge at...

Varsity basketball is huge at Georgetown. Most students buy season tickets, and going to games becomes a major social event. However, Georgetown definitely isn't the place for huge football fans or people who love to tailgate. Intramurals are really fun at Georgetown and are pretty casual since they are mostly student run. They're a great way to keep up with your favorite sports while still enjoying yourself.

I know several people who smoke...

I know several people who smoke marijuana, and I've heard that cocaine is easy to get if you're looking. But I never come into contact with drugs by going about my normal business. Smoking is much more prevalent here—I actually think it's a serious problem.

Georgetown is full of high-maintenance girls and nerdy guys.

Dorms are okay. There are...

Dorms are okay. There are on-campus apartments, which are pretty nice. I like the Village C dorms because you have your own bathroom—a major benefit, especially when drunk people start to barf in the shared ones. Stay away from New South, even though people consider it social—go there to visit, and then go home to your clean bathroom! Harbin dorms are pretty good, too. They’re done in clusters, so that you make friends with the people you share a bathroom with.
