College Prowler Take

Weather is your basic Goldilocks issue; depending on whom you’re talking to, DC is either too hot, too cold, or—in rare cases—just right. For the most parts, students are satisfied with the weather in Washington, with fall and spring getting especially rave reviews.

The city is one of the most beautiful places in America in March and April, and Georgetown in particular is a lovely little town when the leaves turn dark in the fall. Winter can get a bit nasty, however, and most students say they wish Mother Nature would quit her January ambivalence—it snows a lot, but never enough to cancel class.

The weather is much warmer than I expected. It rarely snows, and the winters are mild. The summers can get pretty hot, but school is out between early May and late August, so you miss most of it.

It rains much more in Washington, DC than you would think. Certainly bring rain boots, a raincoat, and an umbrella. Winters can be very cold, but luckily the campus is small enough that exposure to the elements is limited. However, if you want to get out and about in DC for events like concerts, bring lots of warm clothes for bundling up. Overall, you should bring all types of clothing.

The weather isn’t bad, but it does get cold. To be honest though, this year’s weather sucked. It didn’t get cold until real late, which was a plus, but it also was weird and stayed cold into April. It would warm up for a few days, then get cold again for a while, but it’s not that bad. Just bring two heavy jackets and some sweaters and sweatshirts.
