College Prowler Take
Georgia Tech has many traditions among the student body, and many of them somehow involve breaking the rules on campus. If you get caught “stealing the T” (the massive first letter of the word “TECH” on the school’s main administrative building, Tech Tower), expect the wrath of the entire world to come down upon you. The average fraternity party, however, is of much less concern to the campus authorities. Remember, Tech is in the middle of a big city, so those in power are often more concerned with serious crimes such as rape and assault befalling its students. Many believe that campus police will allow a certain level of underage drinking, simply because they realize they can’t completely stop it. If you practice common sense and good judgment, it is relatively easy to stay out of trouble and enjoy a good Tech experience.

Cops won't stop you unless you drink right in front of them, and they don't go into frats.

If you live in a freshman dorm, they are very strict about drugs and drinking. You really have to feel things out to see how much you can get away with. Otherwise, drinking isn’t a very big deal. No open containers of alcohol when walking around campus. If you’re into drinking, frat parties are an easy way to do it, or you’ll just have to feel out your supervision when you get here. |

Nobody usually cares as long as really stupid things don’t start happening. Fraternities get kicked off campus every now and then for hazing and drugs. |

I haven’t heard of too many incidents, so I’d assume the police are pretty soft. |

I never had a drug experience with the police, but they are cool about drinking, as long as you aren’t acting like a complete idiot. It’s best to always pour your drink into a plastic cup instead of walking around with a can or bottle. They won’t bother you if you do that, and if you’re a girl dressed all nice, they totally leave you alone. I know that sounds sexist, but that’s my experience. |
