College Prowler Take
Georgia Tech’s academic rigor is most likely a deterrent for widespread drug use. The drug scene is not overly visible on campus, so many parents and students might be completely unaware of its existence. Some students even go so far as to say they’ve never witnessed or heard of any drug problems on campus at all. However, don’t assume that the drug scene’s lack of prominence means that it’s not there at all; drugs are available on campus and are used heavily in some communities of students. Though there might not be any obvious pressure to use drugs, the scene still does thrive in certain circles. Most students, however, do shy away from using drugs; doing so certainly doesn’t enhance your chances for involvement in campus activities and will most likely compound any academic problems or obstacles that you might face in an already rigorous program.

Tech is 15,000 college students in a downtown setting—there are drugs. It’s not that big of a thing in most areas, but in some areas, it’s fairly common. |

Hard drugs are not that popular, but drugs such as marijuana are readily accessible, though that does not mean that they pose a threat to those who wish not to partake. |

I heard a story that a kid in the chemistry department was arrested for making the purest form of LSD ever. You can get whatever you want. |

I have never seen anyone use drugs, and I have never heard of any drug problems, but I don’t hang out with people who use drugs. I think that it all depends on who you are friends with. |
