Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Typical Tech students are very hard-working and highly- motivated, regardless of their gender. Georgia Tech has a small contingent of stereotypical, laid-back, party-animal guys and girls. However, many guys tend to follow more of an academic persuasion and are not as interested in large social events. It is possible that many of the guys would be apt to considering themselves “loners.” Guys at Georgia Tech outnumber girls by almost three to one.

Girls at Georgia Tech are usually exceptionally intelligent and enthusiastic about their course of study, but they are generally more socially inclined. Sorority girls are very social, almost without exception, which works well for like-minded guys; however, fraternity guys are not all so socially minded, as fraternities exist for many different reasons (business, ethnicity, academics, etc.). In the end, though, any grade on the fairer sex suffers because there are just so few of them.

This Is Why I Want to Transfer

Most of the dudes are either socially inept nerds who flaunt their weirdness or dudes who try to cover it up by going greek or drinking heavily. Girls are often pretty but highly outnumbered and the ratio of good looking girls to unattractive girls sits around 1:2. Also most girls are greek and unwilling to affiliate with non-greek males. It is not uncommon for girls to be very demanding thanks to the 60%/40% ratio and to possibly have other males on the side, simply because they can.

Female Presence Is Underestimated

Georgia Tech is a renowned "sausage fest," and it is true that it is predominately male. I've been there for a year now, and I can tell you: there are plenty of fish in this pool.

Social Scene

Many people hang out at fraternities on the weekends, but older students like to go to bars. Going out is harder for non-Greek men, as most fraternities don’t want guys at their parties that aren’t in their fraternity. Many people also simply hang out in their dorms or apartments with their friends.

Hookups or Relationships?

Tech is a fairly monogamous campus. Of course there are lots of random hookups, just like any college campus, but for the most part, people like to be in relationships. Girls with boyfriends in fraternities usually hang out at that fraternity a great deal. Shacking, or sleeping over at someone’s place, and the walk of shame the morning after, are common occurrences on campus.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

The two best places to meet individuals of the opposite sex are at fraternity parties and in class.

Dress Code

People at Tech are pretty preppy. On a given day most will be seen wearing polos, jeans, khakis, Uggs, or flip-flops. Rain boots and coats are also a must for rainy days.
