Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Georgia Tech has a good campus police force that patrols the campus extensively at night. Campus Police officers are just as competent as Atlanta City Police, and they have every intention of protecting the students. In addition to offering a good police force, Georgia Tech also offers a shuttle service that can take you to and from surrounding locations during the night hours. It is very convenient, and it can be reached 24 hours a day through an 800 number.

With all of that said, one must still remember that Atlanta has routinely ranked among the most dangerous cities in the country over the last 20 years. Students should avoid traveling alone on foot during the evening and early morning hours, no matter if they are on campus or in the middle of downtown. The reality of the big city will not forgive any naiveté on your part. Get informed about city life, and use common sense, travel with friends, and stay in crowded areas.

Open Campus Means Alot

Being an open campus, there are crime reports occasionally. During the day, it is perfectly fine. But during the night, it is advisable to go with friends.

I've never felt dangerous in the Tech campus but things do happen, even if rarely.

Safe, Convenient, and Secure

I feel very safe on campus and that I can get the necessary aid if needed at any time. Very quick, convenient, and plenty of equipment in the campus health center as well.

Saftey of the Georgia Tech Campus

The georgia Tech campus is in the middle of Atlanta and there is freedom of access for anyone to enter the campus. This makes the campus relatively unsafe at nights if you are not smart or careful. There are many police officers paroling the campus to keep it safe however it does not keep the crime 100% at bay. The best suggestion is to always walk with a friend at late nights and stay in well lit areas.Furthermore, there is a Georgia tech transport system designated for late night so technically no student needs to walk across campus late at night if they are worried. Most crime occurs when the victim is walking alone at very late nights. Final note the crime is usually to always petty theft and robbery.
