College Prowler Take
Georgia Tech is in the heart of midtown Atlanta, which provides a very urban environment for students. Along with all of the amenities and luxuries that Atlanta’s city life provides, there are also drawbacks, as is the case with any city. City life in general can sometimes be dangerous. Caution is a virtue; however, Atlanta is an exciting city with a vibrant local music scene, which has helped produce the likes of John Mayer and Collective Soul, four major league sports teams, and several attractions. Atlanta is the biggest and fastest-growing city in the Southeast, and students will always have access to a wealth of options for entertainment. In addition to benefiting from a vibrant social scene, Georgia Tech’s learning environment is enhanced by the presence of a well-integrated community of other universities and colleges. The libraries at Georgia State University, Emory University, and the University of Georgia work in tandem with Georgia Tech’s, and provide students at all schools within the University System of Georgia with a wide variety of research tools and resources.

Atlanta is huge and still growing. A lot of people are moving to Atlanta from all over. There are a lot of universities and colleges here: Emory University, Georgia State University, Agnes Scott College, Spelman College, and Morehouse College are just a few. Definitely visit Six Flags, White Water (one of the nation’s top 10 water parks), and go see a play at the Fox Theater. |

Centennial Park downtown has free concerts during the summers. Concert venues are plentiful and the shows are huge. Music Midtown is a great three-day concert held a few blocks from campus in early May every year. Stone Mountain and Piedmont Park are great places to chill. |

Atlanta is pretty fun. It has most anything you could want in a big city-restaurants, museums, symphony, theater, movies, bars, dance clubs, music, you name it. There are also a lot of things like running and biking clubs. Just down the street from Tech is Piedmont Park, which is a huge park that has running and biking trails, lots of green space, and places to rent inline skates. There really aren’t areas that are so bad you will be shot at if you turn down the wrong road or anything. As for the places that are ‘rough’ areas, you really wouldn’t have any reason to go there anyway. There are some fun things like the Coca-Cola Museum, where they have a laser show every night in the summer, and there are tons of malls and stuff. Plus, we have professional baseball, football, basketball, hockey, women’s soccer, and some other minor league sports. Most major concerts come to Atlanta, too, and radio stations do outdoor concerts on Fridays during the summer. |

There is a ton of cool stuff to see in town. Georgia State University is literally across the street, but it stays that way. We don’t mix, but we don’t stay away, you know? Emory is also about 10 minutes away. Their parties are way better; I highly recommend going. Stay away from anything more south than our school. Northern adventures are okay. The Fox Theatre around the corner has awesome operas, symphony, and plays. Tons of concerts come through Atlanta. |
