Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

It is true that many Tech students might sometimes wish that they had chosen another, less demanding school for college. Georgia Tech is very academically demanding, to an extreme that alienates many students and parents. Many see the school as a sort of “proving ground” for professional life.

However, the size of the student body is not overly large, and it is easy for one to get involved socially and academically without straining your GPA. The rigorousness of academic life at Georgia Tech instills a rare motivation in the students there that will prepare them well for professional life. Most students feel that an education at Tech was worth all the work.

Great Experience

I have really enjoyed my time at Tech so far. I'm from out of state, so I had some adjustments to make and had to go longer than others without visiting home. However, I still would not choose to go to another school if I had the chance to. The location of our school is perfect. It is in the middle of the city, but it still has a campus feel to it as opposed to some of the other schools in the area that are in the city. There are always things to do around campus and tons of things to get involved in.

There Is Much Fun to Have Here, However the Course Work Can Hamper That

The school experience is great so far. There are many decent and no judgmental people at this school so its great for people who didn't fit the mold in high school. The course work is tedious however since Georgia tech is one of the best engineering schools in the US.There aren't many parties on campus but there parties at the neighboring schools such as Georgia State or Emory. Overall it is not a disappointing experience if you are able to balance the work effectively.

Unique, Unique, Unique

At GT you'll have a unique experience no matter what. The level of education is top-tier, and they make sure to remind you with grueling courses that keep you pretty busy depending on your major. The social life is pretty funny, but something you'll get used to. There's basically three categories: you can chill out in the dorms, have a few drinks with some close friends (if your RA is chill, that's a big IF sometimes). Then you can go to parties in fraternities (don't get too bummed when people are lame about you drinking, and then hand your female friend a free cup of hunch punch) or off campus in Home Park (where all wildness is available, and the parties don't stop till 4:20 in the mornin'). Finally, you're living in Atlanta! Wake up and get away from the same ol' same ol'! Go check out some local music at The 5 Spot or The Earl, or just go urban exploring with some friends to the different parts of the city. It's a big city with lots to see, so don't get stuck in the mentality that you've seen it all, when you're still sitting on your dorm room couch watching NetFlix.

Some cool things about Georgia Tech academically is the openness about research and study abroad. I did both, and they are really encouraging students to do so, and they really offer opportunities to research in really interesting areas and study ALL across the world. You can check out all the options from the OIE website within the gatech.edu site to see just where you can go. Studying abroad is great for out-of-state students as you get to pay in state tuition which is about 1/4 of the price, so go for it, and have a time you'll never forget.

I guess I do have to mention the people at Tech can be entertainment in themselves. You'll see and overhear some hilarious things whether it's about WOW strategies or nuclear physics, and if you remember how you'll never get to hear that again, soak it all in and remember there's real girls on the outside (haha, just kidding).
