Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transit Authority) is available from campus via multiple bus routes that incorporate campus streets, and rapid rail lines are reasonably accessible from campus. Bus routes from campus transport students to the Midtown (10th Street) and North Avenue rail stops, from which students can travel to Hartsfield International Airport, Lenox Mall, and an array of other locations. A rail map and schedule of bus routes is available at www.itsmarta.com.

Most students, though, don’t like to use the public transportation. Driving and bumming rides from friends are generally the preferred method of getting around, if you can manage it. But, if you need to use public transportation, it is there.

Location Is Everything

Since Georgia Tech is located in the middle of the city, public transportation is a great option to traverse the city. There are free shuttles that take students to the main train station, but there are also public buses.

Around Campus Transport Is Great, Off Campus Not So Much

Despite being in the Atlanta area, the public transportation is poor. Do not expect it to be like New York city. The buses are infrequent and the taxi prices are a bit high. There is a train station in walking distance from the campus and does come in very pretty handy to go places. The train also goes directly to the Airport so its convenient for people who travel often. Its best to get around however by car to the pubs, bars, and night life areas. The on campus transportation is great, the school has it private shuttles that are usually on time and frequent.

Quick Access

Subway is in close proximity(3 blocks in about 3 directions). Public buses come onto campus. Driving is easy (interstate is 1 block from campus). Lots to do in walking distance. Campus transportation takes you to nearby shopping area on weekends.
