When hearing students grumble about Germanna's outdated campuses, it would be logical to assume that the College is stuck in the Stone Age. But this isn't true. Each of Germanna's campuses offers free Wi-Fi to students who bring laptops to campus, and students are allowed to use school-owned Dell desktop computers in the libraries and the Academic Computing Centers. Each campus has a strong Wi-Fi signal with only a few dead zones, and while finding an available desktop computer can be challenging, students frequently take advantage of the free resources.
However, the students' aforementioned grumblings are not without merit. Germanna's IT staff is much kinder to teachers than students, and random Fredericksburg residents hang out at Germanna all day, every day, monopolizing the technology resources for which students must pay. This ruffles more than a few feathers. The same non-students who clog the Academic Computing Center at the Fredericksburg Area Campus (FAC) also frequent the Student Lounge, a dingy room that will soon be renovated by the Student Government Association. The current lounge boasts two TVs equipped with video game controllers, as well as a ping-pong table, which students and non-students use to conduct tournaments. Unfortunately, because Germanna has no on-site athletic facilities, the school’s only organized team—basketball—must practice at the Bragg Hill Family Life Center, so games are not school-wide events. In fact, five words can sum up Germanna’s athletic department: “We have a basketball team?”
