Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Gettysburg’s unofficial and evasive stance on drugs and alcohol on campus seems to be an indicator that they are here to stay. There does, however, seem to be an internal commitment to keep the College’s negative publicity to a minimum. Campus strictness is appropriately severe. If you are smart about bending the rules, you will likely not suffer any consequences for your mild civil disobediences. However, if you push the limits, you will probably find that what comes around goes around.

It is not difficult to skirt by the Man at G’burg. Close your door when you are doing something you shouldn’t be, and if you don’t do anything to arouse suspicion, then you won’t be bothered.

Campus Security Vamped up

When I started as a freshman at Gettysburg, the campus security was more of a force that encouraged safety and protected the well-being of students without trying to 'ruin the fun'. Nowadays they have gotten much more strict, especially with regards to Greek life, and seem to intentionally seek out parties just to bust them, rather then to monitor noise or help out if there are any problems. This leads to students keeping their drinking and partying more under-wraps and possibly not alerting security if they actually do have a problem just to avoid potential punishment.

Strict When Necessary

Gettysburg is pretty strict on plagiarizing. However we do have an Honor Commission that will review your case and let you defend yourself. DPS (Department of Public Safety) is alright. They're pretty good about parties, so, long as you don't make a lot of noise. They will give you a free emergency ride to the hospital if you're really bad off and won't give you points. This is one time only.

Strictness on Campus

The campus police is not as strict as it should be on underage drinking and drug use. The school has a point system in which tallies how students violate the rules. They send students to counseling for alcohol abuse and drug abuse after they reach ten points. However, repeated offenders are put out. Plagiarism is a capital offense here, and will result in expulsion.
