College Prowler Take
Perception is reality at Gettysburg, as Greeks and Greek-oriented events dominate the social scene on campus. Unless you don’t mind toned-down get-togethers in dorm rooms, or have the organizational skills (and the cash) to make it to Baltimore or DC, it’s very easy for students to come to rely on frat parties for your social stimulation, particularly early on in your college career. This is not to say that a good time cannot be had outside the bounds of the Greek system, but it does have to be sought out. Off-campus apartment parties are abundant at times (particularly in warmer weather), and tolling around the quads and housing complexes generally results in a good time, one way or another. Between bars and off-campus housing, it is easier for upperclassmen to have a good time independent of the fraternities. A pub-crawl is not out of the question, due to the large number of bars within walking distance of campus, and since alcohol is permitted in apartments and suites where the residents are of age, a quiet drink and a movie can pass time quite well.

Bars off campus suck. There's, like, nothing. You have to know how to find the good parties on campus. The fraternities are dirty and pretty gross, but then again, so are they all. Once you become an upperclassmen you can find some pretty sweet parties, once people start moving out of the freshman dorms.

Frats rule the nightlife freshmen year. Girls can get into anywhere, but guys will have a harder time unless they know a brother or are walking in with a big group of girls. After freshman year, house parties become more popular until you become 21 and start to hit the bars.

Gettysburg has a pretty large...
Gettysburg has a pretty large Greek population, thus meaning there is always a party to be found towards the end of the week and on weekends. If you are not into the whole Greek frat party deal, there are many bars within walking distance of campus. The Pub has $2 pitchers on Tuesday. Wednesdays at the Flying Bull has open-mic night, as well as a Grateful Dead appreciation night on Mondays. |

There are no clubs, but there are always house parties, and the fraternity parties are generally open. There is stuff to do for the nightlife crowd. There are also non-drinking options that the school provides, as well. |

The parties are pretty good, minus the frats. There are no clubs anywhere close. |
FactsClub Crawler
The short answer is that there are no dance clubs in Gettysburg. If you really want to hit a club, your best bets will be to check out Harrisburg or Baltimore. The student-run nightclub, the Attic, is only open once or twice a month, but when it is open it is a good time.
Bar Prowler
There are a good number of bars in Gettysburg considering its size, but not all are hospitable to student customers. Generally, the closer the bar is to campus, the more welcoming it will be to students. The following are pretty safe bets, and most have nightly specials. So, in a given week, you can hit each one on a separate night and not have to pay more than $3 for a drink.
Organization Parties
One of the unique things about Gettysburg College is that it has its own student-run nightclub, the Attic. Most organizations host their parties at the Attic, and students over 21 always check the fine print of publicity flyers to see those magic words, Host Provider; which means that three free beers or glasses of wine will be served to each person.
Bar Listings
Mama V’s is the classic college bar hangout in Gettysburg. There’s a pool table, darts, beer, and not much else. You get what you pay for, and nothing more. Mamma Ventura’s 13 Chambersburg St. (717) 334-5548
Since O’Rorke’s is on the south side of town, near the battlefield and away from campus, it tends to get overlooked by students looking to stumble in and out of a bar in short order. This is a shame, because it is managed well and offers a nice ambience for those looking for more of a quiet, laid-back bar experience. O’Rorke’s Eatery & Spirits 44 Steinwehr Ave. (717) 334-2333
The Blue Parrot is one of the nicest bars in town, and certainly the most chic. Of course, the prices reflect this, but it can be worth the cost. If the Flying Bull is the Homer Simpson of the bar scene in Gettysburg, the Blue Parrot is Frasier Crane. The Blue Parrot 27 Chambersburg St. (717) 337-3739
The Bull has recently overcome its reputation as a dive, and with the help of cheap beer and live entertainment, has managed to turn itself into somewhat of a trendy hangout for the fraternity and independent crowds alike. Of course, in reality, it’s still a dive, but it’s harder to tell with so many beautiful people at the bar. Flying Bull Saloon 28 Carlisle St. (717) 334-6202
The Pub is where it’s at on Tuesday nights with drink specials. Most other nights of the week, the place is generally quiet, as competing specials at other bars attract all of the attention. Still, the Pub remains a solid choice any night, and if you are looking to skip the crowds, check it out on a Wednesday or a Thursday, as you will likely have the place to yourself. The Pub & Restaurant 20-22 Lincoln Sq. (717) 334-7100
What to Do if You're Not 21
If you’re not 21, the fraternities are the obvious option at Gettysburg. They offer alcohol, close contact with people of the opposite sex, and the total lack of need for conversation—all within close walking distance of the freshman dorms. If you absolutely have to leave campus, there’s always Wal-Mart. Seriously though, since all the bars in Gettysburg check IDs at the door, if you’re under 21, you can’t even come in and hang out after about 10 p.m.
