Transportation

Quick Stats

Best Ways to Get Around Town It's easy to walk or bike into the center of town for a bite to eat, but for a trip further away (say to a supermarket or Wal-Mart), it's more realistic to have a car or be friends with someone who does.
Best Ways to Get to the Airport Take a shuttle from the Transportation Office for $20, or catch a ride from a friend.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Unlike larger institutions, at Gettysburg, there’s no need to deal with the confusion of bus lines and schedules. Firstly, there just aren’t any and, secondly, because there is simply no reason why you would need to go anywhere that far. The entire campus can be traversed in about 20 minutes by foot, and just about every academic building can be reached from any dorm building within 15 minutes—and usually much quicker.

The school does offer transportation off campus, including shuttles to the three nearby major airports and all other public transportation hubs. Though the price is a little high, and it requires reservations, it is a convenient and generally reliable way to get to and from the airports and stations. Around academic breaks, transportation services opens up its schedule, offering frequent shuttles to local airports.

BYOC... Bring Your Own Car

Since Gettysburg is in the sticks, you'll want a car if you'd like to get off campus for a day, a weekend, or even an hour. Of course, you could always wait for the creepy blue trolly which will drop you off and pick you up at randomly odd hours. Transportation shuttles to and from the airport are RIDICULOUSLY expensive.

Isolated

The closest airport to Gettysburg is BWI which is about a 1.5 hour drive. You can take the shuttle from campus but it costs $20 each way. You can also take the shuttle to the Amtrak station in Harrisburg for the same price. Other than that, there isn't transportation to other places.

Freedom Transit Is Great

There's the trolley, Freedom Transit, that gets you around the town for free, which is great! There's also a bus that gets you to the local bus and train station. The college also provides transportation that will take you to any large cities surrounding Gettysburg.
