Comparable Schools' Transportation Grades:
Quick StatsBest Ways to Get Around Town
- It's easy to walk or bike into the center of town for a bite to eat, but for a trip further away (say to a supermarket or Wal-Mart), it's more realistic to have a car or be friends with someone who does.
How to Get to the Airport
- Take a shuttle from the Transportation Office for $20, or catch a ride from a friend.
College Prowler Take
Unlike larger institutions, at Gettysburg, there’s no need to deal with the confusion of bus lines and schedules. Firstly, there just aren’t any and, secondly, because there is simply no reason why you would need to go anywhere that far. The entire campus can be traversed in about 20 minutes by foot, and just about every academic building can be reached from any dorm building within 15 minutes—and usually much quicker. The school does offer transportation off campus, including shuttles to the three nearby major airports and all other public transportation hubs. Though the price is a little high, and it requires reservations, it is a convenient and generally reliable way to get to and from the airports and stations. Around academic breaks, transportation services opens up its schedule, offering frequent shuttles to local airports.

There is no public transportation....
There is no public transportation. School transportation goes to Wal-Mart every couple of hours, inconveniently, and to major train stations and airports, for completely outrageous prices. You'll need to find a friend with a car. Or, if you have a car, you'll get fed up with people bumming rides off you.

The college is in walking distance...
The college is in walking distance of places like Rite-Aid, 7-11, and a movie theater, so if you really needed something right away, it's not a problem. But the school does offer a shuttle service that brings you to the Outlet Mall, Wal-Mart, Giant (grocery store), and other locations. It's also very easy to find an upperclassman with a car that would be more than willing to give you a ride.

There's not much to do in town,...
There's not much to do in town, and you'd need a car to get to the fun places. Freshmen aren't allowed to have cars on campus.

Most things are within walking...
Most things are within walking distrance, like a movie theater, a grocery store, a few decent restaurants and most bars. It is a rural area though, so a car is useful if you need to leave Gettysburg.

There really is no need to use...
There really is no need to use public transportation to get around town because most things are within walking distance. For those that aren't though, the College has a shuttle service that will bring students to the outlets or Wal-Mart, to Harrisburg (to catch a train), or to BWI for a flight.
