Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Over the past few years, Gonzaga’s facilities have improved immensely, benefitting from the tidal wave of money that has engulfed the University. Since the majority of it has come from the glory on the basketball court, it is not surprising that athletic-related facilities are the newest, shiniest, and most high-tech. The Rudolf Fitness Center is stellar, sporting a plethora of new machines in a clean, warmly-lit environment. Likewise, the McCarthey Athletic Center is state-of-the-art and beautiful. For those desiring mental workouts, the Foley Center Library provides a pleasant studying environment with desks, couches, and panoramic tinted windows.

The Crosby Student Center is the focal point of campus life during the day. Students congregate between classes to check mail, get coffee, attempt to study, or merely walk through and scan for friends. Most glaringly insufficient is Russell Theater, a cramped and ugly approximation of a theater. Gonzaga has claimed that a performing arts hall is in the works, but there is still no sign of progress. Functionality still rules the day at Gonzaga—it has the essentials. It doesn’t have luxuries such as an on-campus movie theater, concert venue, or full-blown coffeeshop. But once you get used to the idea that concerts are in Crosby, movies are shown in lecture rooms, and any number of spots can be a coffeeshop, it’s not so bad.

Great Facilities

The last decade of basketball revenue is clearly paying off and the facilities at GU are top notch. All the buildings are modern and sleek (Jepson Center or Herek Center) or traditional and classy (College Hall), depending on what the school is going for. The dining hall is a little dingy and the theater is way to small considering the quality of our drama department, but the administration has been looking into both.

Very Good Facilities

Athletics and library facilities are very good. Several newer classroom buildings on campus. Student center and dining facility are outdated, but a new building (which will contain both) is in early planning stages. Fitness center is probably one of the best in the country.

Campus Facilities

The facilities on campus are great. The athletic center meets all of the needs of an athlete, while the student center is open late, has a coffee shop and lots of activities. The library is open late and the student lounge in the library is open 24 hours. Along with this, the general campus is wonderful!

Favorite Things To Do

Crosby is the epicenter of student activities, hosting weekly events, coffehouse, concerts, open mic nights, and basketball viewing parties. It is also the best place on campus to grab a latte and mingle with classmates. While plays at Gonzaga are rarities, the improv theater group GUTS packs the house for their weekend performances. Intramural sports are also extremely popular.

The Rudolf Fitness Center gives students the ability to swim, work out, shoot hoops, or play racquetball. The Jundt Art Museum often has decent exhibits of student art, professional collections, and famous original prints. Theater, music, and movies on campus are much more sporadic.
