Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The off-campus dining scene for Gonzaga students can be divided neatly into two categories: restaurants adjacent to campus and restaurants downtown. There are some real gems next to campus, but not much diversity. On the east end, you can find greasy breakfasts (Arny’s), light cuisine (Ultimate Bagel), and the dual pizza/calzone powerhouses (David’s Pizza and Pete’s Pizza). Sonic is by no means authentic Mexican, but they know how to load a burrito in a serious way.

Despite the limited selection, the vast majority of students eat at this handful of establishments. However, downtown (a 20-minute walk or 5-minute drive) offers high-quality, reasonably-priced restaurants by the fistful. The absences in the Spokane restaurant scene that are felt by Gonzaga students are a lack of student discounts and a dearth in late-night dining. However, Spokane rewards those who persevere and go the extra mile to seek out good food. There are excellent Moroccan, Russian, and Greek places that await those who are willing to go a little out of their way. Likewise, most of the nice restaurants won’t charge too much—you can find a great meal for under 15 dollars at over a dozen places, all within 25 minutes of campus.

Limited, Stock up on Your Favorite Foods at Home

Coming from the Los Angeles Area, I'm a little biased when it comes to the eatery options in Spokane, WA. Not a lot of culture in this city, so consequently not a lot of food options aside from American. One good thai place and mexican place, but aside from that, not a whole lot of variety, and nothing insanely delicious you wanna go back for more. Load up on all your faves like in-n-out and chipotle at home because you won't find them in Spokane.
