College Prowler Take
The majority of Goucher students would rather read a psychology textbook than go to an athletic event on campus. The only thing students watch the sport teams do is try to fit 30 people at two small tables in the dining hall. While the student body is apathetic toward sports, the athletes love it and have a guaranteed social circle. The teams form strong bonds, and they play together, eat together, go to class together, study together, and party together. Students who do attend sporting events are usually friends and family of the players; however, the men’s soccer, lacrosse, and basketball teams receive a decent amount of student support. Midnight Madness, the annual pep rally held the night before the basketball season starts, is one of the most widely attended campus events. Club sports are relatively popular on campus, especially ultimate Frisbee and disc golf, which compete regularly with other colleges. Intramural sports have been expanded over the past couple of years and include regular seasons of soccer and basketball, with other sports rotating based upon student interest. Since Goucher sports are Division III, getting a spot on the team is not as competitive as other colleges, and some teams don’t make any cuts at all.

Sports at Goucher are a little neglected. Attendance is poor, outside of the direct friend-circle of athletes and rival teams. I have only attended one or two sports events and never stayed for all of one. We have a good Student Recreation Center with a pool, tennis courts, racquetball courts, and exercise equipment, and many people go there to exercise. But athletes themselves seem to be a separate clique from the rest of campus.

Goucher is a small liberal arts school—the only people interested in sports are the athletes and their girlfriends.

Sports aren't big on campus. Athletes are relegated to their own little corner of campus. Intramural sports go through phases of being very popular or not very popular.

Sports are pretty unimportant a Goucher. Pretty much only the athletes really care, but people do go to games sometimes to be supportive or for a change of atmosphere. I am not even sure if we have intramural sports—more like a bunch of people get together and play soccer a lot. This happens often.

No one really attends sporting events. Goucher's charter prohibits football teams and cheerleading (random!), but Goucher is nationally recognized for its dance department, and the dance concerts are always very well attended and often sell out. There are definitely coaches, and you can tell people do sports because the jocks come into the dining halls after practice and talk about all that stuff. The gym is kind of lame. We definitely aren't a "sports school," I think we're Division III, so there you go.

Gyms and Facilities
- Eline von Borries Aquatic Center - The Aquatic Center features a six-lane, 25-yard indoor pool in great condition. The free-swim hours vary each day, with less time available in the winter to accommodate the swim team.
- Outdoor Tennis Courts - The eight well-maintained tennis courts, located next to the Sports and Recreation Center, always draw a crowd. When not in use by the tennis teams or physical education classes, students often play a few sets in between classes.
- Sports and Recreation Center - The Sports and Recreation Center includes two gymnasiums, a weight room with cardio equipment, a separate cardio fitness room with individual TVs, two dance studios, a Pilates studio, a multipurpose room, racquetball courts, a classroom, and offices.

Getting Tickets
Most sporting events are free and never sell out. The men’s and women’s basketball teams are the only sports that charge for admission: $5 for adults and $2 for students and children.
Most Popular Sports
Sports, in general, are not popular at Goucher. The basketball, lacrosse, soccer, and swimming teams draw the biggest crowds of spectators, but even those crowds are often less than a hundred people.
Most Overlooked Teams
The equestrian team is hands down the best team on campus. They always place in the top three of every competition, yet they do not receive enough recognition as a sport on campus.
