Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Security is only strict about three things: drugs, underage drinking, and illegal parking. If you are caught using or possessing drugs, security will call the police to deal with the situation and will refer you to the Judicial Board for further disciplinary action. Multiple drug violations could lead to expulsion from campus. Underage students cannot possess, drink, or even be in the same room as an open container of alcohol. Certain security officers call the police for underage drinking, but the majority of officers just deals with it themselves. Security will usually let a first-time offender off with a warning. As a repeat offender, you may have to serve community service and/or attend an alcohol-counseling program. That being said, security only busts students who aren’t smart about hiding it. If you are quietly drinking in your room, you won’t have a problem. Students usually get busted when they are being too loud or when parties spill into the hallway.

Although it can be annoying at times, security is there to protect the campus and does a good job of that. Students can call security if they need help curbing unwanted behavior from other students, such as busting up a noisy party down the hall, stopping residents from smoking in the stairwell, or blocking obscene phone calls. Security can be quite useful.

What a Joke

The students at Goucher are pretty mild, so sometimes Public Safety gets a little too excited when they think someone is breaking a rule, because they pretty much have nothing to do all day. There's also the "no chase" policy, so if you get caught drinking, for example, as long as it's not in your room, you can simply run away! Seems like a strange rule to me, but hey, no complaints here! Goucher is really quite laidback.

Serious on Pot

Just increased the sanctions for pot and you can really get in trouble. One kid went to jail. Be careful and make wise choices.

Very Relaxed, Yet Still a Safe Environment

I tend to find the campus very relaxed and not terribly strict. Restrictions have increased in the past couple years, but for the most part the policies aren't terribly overwhelming. That being said, I still think that the campus is very safe.
