College Prowler Take
With the library open 24 hours and a ton of computers scattered throughout, it’s usually not hard to find an open computer. While there are a few specific labs within the library, most students use the freestanding computers. It can become very difficult to find a computer during midterms and finals, so students will often bring their own laptops or stake out a computer early. Students get 600 free pages of printing a semester, so the library is often used for quick print jobs by students who have computers in their room but don’t feel like wasting their printing ink. Most students bring a computer to school so they don’t have to deal with the hassle of walking across campus in search of an open computer. It is also more convenient to have one in your room because e-mail is the official mode of communication on campus. Goucher’s wireless network is easily accessible in all academic buildings, the library, dining halls, common areas of all dorms, Heubeck hall, New residence hall ("The T"), the SrC, performance spaces, the Gopher Hole, and the residential quad. The network is reliable, and it is expanding by the year.

Students should definitely bring...
Students should definitely bring their own computer, if only for convenience. It's never too difficult to get a computer, although you may have to wait a bit at peak hours. It's very easy to print unlike at other institutions I've been to. The Ethernet is very convenient, and there is wireless in most places you need it.

The network is very fast most...
The network is very fast most times, but some traffic is throttled. WiFi is spotty at times but good when working. The library is constantly crowded at the end of the semester and extremely warm and stuffy. I think a laptop is crucial to college life in general at this point, though.

Computer labs are only ever...
Computer labs are only ever crowded right before finals when everyone has a paper to write. Other than that, you can always find a computer. Obviously having your own computer is convenient, but it is not necessary at Goucher. The network is quite fast, and the provided e-mail works well.

The library is the only source of...
The library is the only source of 24-hour computer service, but there are a few computer labs in the Science and Language buildings. Having your own computer makes it easier to work, and transferring documents to print is really simple. The campus WiFi can be pretty spotty in the dorms but always seems to work on the academic side of campus. If you want to print, just make sure you come early to the library—it gets busy around midday, and you don't want to be caught in a class without your essay because the lines were too long.

The computers are mostly found in...
The computers are mostly found in the library and are definitely crowded during midterms and finals. Otherwise, it's easy to find one to use. The majority of students have laptops, and since there is WiFi on the majority of the campus, it is a convenient resource, especially when the library doesn't have any free computers—you can use your own there.
