Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The facilities on campus are well maintained and aesthetically pleasing. The gorgeous landscape and architecture are a pride of Goucher. Each building added to campus is carefully designed to match the existing buildings: stone exteriors, beautiful angles, and tall windows. On occasion, some buildings feel too small for the growing student population. Pearlstone Student Center is the most widely used building and is often crammed with students. Also, Stimson Dining hall, although recently renovated, is still too crowded during mealtimes. If you don’t arrive exactly at the start of each meal, you may be without silverware—or a seat. The lines in Pearlstone Café are horrendous during meals because the serving area is not large enough to accommodate more than about 10 students at a time. Once through the lines, students may have to take their meal elsewhere because there are only a few tables.

Goucher has been expanding its workout center and continues to update it. Even though Goucher is not known for its athletics, students still want a place to work out with a variety of equipment and enough of it to go around. While it took a few years for any improvements to be made, Goucher finally addressed the growing needs of its diverse student body. Overall, the College is good at keeping its facilities well maintained and performing consistently.

Top Notch Library

The athletic center is great, the library (atheneum) is very choice. It is more than just a library, it has exercise equipment on the top floor, a cafe, couches, and so many places where you can study. We also have a computer area that has wide screen apples with the option of a P.C. layout. I love the library!

Good Facilities

Goucher's Athenaeum has everything a student could possibly want- food, an extensive library and media center, a space for viewing lectures or student productions, classrooms, workout equipment and more. Other facilities, such as the gyms, dance studios, and academic offices are not as state-of-the-art, but serve their respective purposes and are generally well-kept.

Favorite Things To Do

Goucher students have plenty of facilities and on-campus events to keep them occupied. Students can check out campus theater productions in Mildred Dunnock Theatre, student-choreographed dance performances in Todd Dance Studio, and orchestral or vocal performances in Haebler Chapel or Merrick Lecture Hall. For the less artistically inclined, students can work out in the gym, swim in the pool, or catch a game. Each night, Goucher’s on-campus coffeehouse, the Gopher Hole, draws in a wide variety of students. With events ranging from live music to game shows to film screenings to poetry readings, the Gopher Hole has something for everyone.

In the spring and early fall, you can catch hoards of students sunbathing, playing beach volleyball, or hanging out on the grassy residential quad. Student organization sponsored activities include movie showings, concerts with off and on-campus bands, lectures, cooking competitions, and a cappella performances. Between school and student sponsored activities, there are often too many interesting things to do.
