Grads Entering Job MarketAdvice
- The Career Development Office (CDO) should be every student’s first step in the job and internship search process. CDO offers a variety of resources, workshops, and personal advice to get you on the right track. Take advantage of the free CDO workshops! With topics such as résumé writing, job searches, and interviewing skills, these workshops will ease the anxiety of post-graduation life. Workshops are usually at convenient evening hours and have free food! The more you know and the more you practice, the better your chance to land a job after graduation. Being a Goucher student puts you a notch above other college students applying for internships in the area. Goucher is well regarded in Towson and Baltimore, and employers will contact CDO when they have open internship positions. Make an appointment with CDO to explore your options—they will help you through the process and keep you posted on new internship positions related to your field. If you’re looking for an on-campus job during school, be sure to attend the job fair held before classes begin. Dress nicely and mind your manners. Since there are not enough jobs to go around, employers will throw away your application if you are still in your pajamas and are loud and rude while at the fair. Make sure to follow up on your applications a few days after the fair. You must have initiative to land an on-campus job. (Who wants to hire a slacker?) The later it gets into the semester, the harder it is to find an on-campus job.
